Cigarocaster/Stratobox, looped
Here's my Strat build with a demo for you. Pretty goofy demo at that! I know I should NOT hum and I should tune my guitar but hey, sometimes everything just doesn't quite pull together.
This guitar was an anniversary gift for my wife and this video is to prove to her that it really works. It has an Aroma De Cuba body with wonderful art work. Parts donor was a pawn-shop Spectrum strat-a-like with a busted neck. I love it but I really want a resonator model.
Played thru a JamMan, Harmony amp, and Digiverb set on "way under water". Sometimes you'll hear my flip flops floppin' out of time. Need to work on my timing I know. .009 strings on this throw me way off too. I worry one of 'em might wrap around my neck they feel so loose. It was close to open E at one time too. I normally use .012s.
Enough excuses! Lighten up is a not polished at all attempt to do just that, lighten up!
Cigars are all gone. http://youtu.be/863QMv9vO9Y

Hell - why worry about a bit of tuning when you can get a tone and sound like that!
Wooooh - the slide has just kicked in - now there's a sweet sound. Great stuff - I'd like to hear more of this Cigarocaster/Stratobox.

An improv a day keeps the demons at bay!

I thought I heard some JJ Cale licks in your playing, OneEyedSlide. Definitely tasty!
That boy ain't right...,
but he's big on the North Sea Coast of Germany.

So all you need are 6 strings, a pickup and something to keep it in place.
Oh, and a bluesy music room.

Right on! That's very cool. Mojo for days. I also dig your psychodelic jam room.
I guess I need to build me a cigar box guitar. I have a donor strat clone. Do you do anything special to the cigar box where the neck mounts? I suppose I should look at one.

Re: Cigarocaster/Stratobox, looped
Thanks for the kind comments. Somebody choke me if I start to hum again!
I took a table saw to the donor strat and planed it down so it would fit the box with the lid shut. Then I had to rout new cavities for the tone pots, pickup switch, and input jack. Pretty crude, but more sophisticated than a single string "diddly bow".
Thanks again! This was fun!

It's probably unconscious. I couldn't get him outta my head for awhile in the seventies. Liked him alot.DeaconBlues wrote:I thought I heard some JJ Cale licks in your playing,
Yup! And even one string will work!12bar wrote:So all you need are 6 strings, a pickup and something to keep it in place.
Well, everybody seems to do it differently. I cheated. Instead of making a cigar box into a guitar I made a guitar into a cigar box! Here are some pics.Blindboy wrote: Do you do anything special to the cigar box where the neck mounts?
