hi
hi
i have just signed up to this site tho i had an account which wasn't used at some time i can't remember the user name.
anyhow as i'm new i figured i should say howdy.
i am 40 years old, australian and picked up the guitar about 4 years ago after a 20 year or so break.
i play a heavily customized epi sg which is sadly out of action while i rebuild the electronics, through a 30 watt laney solid state
which is in a storeroom as i write this and a pignose. i am considering buying a cheap squire fat strat next week, probably a bad idea
but i want something with single coils and they are cheap (leaving me funds to keep improving my beloved sg and to possibly
purchase a vox tonelabs st given i live in a flat now - my laney and i until recently enjoyed being deep in the bush without neigbours).
I am also considering an epi dot or a tele custon 2 with the duncan p90's.
i tend to play mostly blues but with some punk and dodgy 80's goth influences. i am playing in a couple of very amateur projects
since my band broke up and i shifted 500 miles a few weeks ago. i would love to upload some stuff but might wait until
i feel better about the quality given how damn good a lot of you are.
i have been lurking here for years btw and learned a lot from these boards and from this site generally.
anyway just saying hi. :)

Re: hi
to the Forum Shandra. Glad you've been enjoying the site.
Just a quick post as I should be getting things ready for the holiday.
I recommend the idea of the Vox Tonelab ST you're thinking about - it's the first PC interface / amp & fx simulation device I've had where I've been able to spend time playing through it and not spending hours trying to tweak tones unsuccessfully. But, as the members will know on this forum, I'm a bit of a Vox fanatic, so I'm probably biased.
PS - Doing a preview I've just noticed Strummer beat me to it with my Vox thing - you know me too well my friend!

Re: hi
Shandra... glad to have some new blood in the forum, sounds like you will be a good contributor with lots to offer. However... the OLD blood is pretty impressive around here.

Re: hi
Hi Shandra! Welcome from another newbie. If you're a guitar hot rodder you need another one in the "hangar" for those occasions the first one is down. But who really needs an excuse to acquire another guitar? You could do worse than a Squier. The price is usually right and they make a great platform for modding when you SG is again playable. I bought a Squier for the same reason you are looking at them and it's turned into a very enjoyable little guitar. I've got an Epi SG too.
As you already know, this is a great bunch of folks!!

Re: hi
thank you all for the lovely
au update - my sg goes into the shop for rewiring of my nice new dimarzio pro pots, jack and switch while i enjoy the break
from my precious sg play in my nice new wine red squire standard hss strat, best i could find in my narrow price range.
the tonelab is going to have to wait til i can afford it but i am very pleased with my new strat.

Re: hi
ps ta very much everyone for info about the tonelab st
i do believe i will be purchasing one i like that its an interface and will leave my m-audio interface
free for processing other instruments and just as an ableton dongle.
i tested a tonelab st a few days ago and while it still had awful multi-effects pedal moments
the single tube seemed to help a lot with tone. i had a behringer x-vamp for a while and
it put me right off multi-effects units.

Re: hi
A red strat! NICE! Is that so it matches your SG?
Re: hi
ooh i forgot i posted all this
much thanks VB for recommending the tonelab st, finally picked one up last week and am rather pleased with it.
it wound up either the st or put up the cash for a gig worthy amp, sound was getting muddy with gain at volumes that could compete with the drummer
i bought it way more for it's amp and cab sims than the fx and the amps are great.
planning on getting the new tonelab EX when it gets to Australia
anyway just that
edited to add i think i'm now quite a fan of vox, the build quality for price etc
