Ladies and Gentlemen - The Rolling Stones.

Post by kiwiclapton »

Hi Guys,

I'd like to share a few thoughts with you. I picked up a second hand copy of Keith Richard's bio "Life" a few weeks ago.
I can recommend it,’s a fascinating and honest read, now I've not really digged Richard's style but certainly appreciated all the Stone's radio songs when I was growing up. I think one of the reasons why I didn't dig them was they way they, in particular Jagger pranced about on stage during the 1980’s anyway.

My opinion of the Rolling Stones has changed dramatically and a key towards this has been the DVD “Ladies and Gentlemen – The Rolling Stones”, Wow what a DVD. The Stones are tight and cool cats, it’s like an epiphany! I’ve a lot of catching up to do. I can see what all the fuss was about.

Oh, the memories of Keith’s visit to New Zealand during the 1960’s are hilarious. Check both the book and DVD out.

In the name of God, Eric Clapton and the Slowhand, Amen.

This was on tv a few weeks ago and I recorded, but still haven't watched it yet. I'm with you Kiwi, being a child of the 80's I just remember Mick dancing around with Tina Turner  . I do like the Stones, have a few CD's of their 60's and 70's stuff, but I've never been that big of a fan.

Maybe "Ladies and Gentleman" will change my mind.

Yeah, the book was great. I did borrow the DVD, but wasn't much taken by it, so I just quickly scanned it and returned... Mick Taylor was great on it, though!

The live album Get Yer Ya-Yas Out knocks the musical pants off of Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones, in my opinion. Better sound (in the anniversary edition, at least) and a manifestly better track selection. Plus some real low-down dirty blues numbers with just Jagger and Richards.

I have seen this movie more times than I can count. I saw it when it first showed at the movie theatres at midnight in the 1970's. I even had a fuzzy bootleg copy of it on VHS in the 1980's. For me it's probably one of the best rock concert movies (besides The Last Waltz) that was ever made. It shows The Stones at the very peak in my opinion. Jagger is a manic and Keith is firing on all cylinders with Charlie & Bill laying it down in a fury. The slide solo Mick Taylor does on this song alone is worth the price of the DVD.

They were probably the greatest bar band ever and they are still doing it 49.5 years later.
