While playing our regular Monday night gig, I leaned my Ibanez against the amp like I always do, and turned away. As soon as my back was turned, over it went.
I think I can fix it. (I hope)

Holy Smoke Blindboy ......I can understand your pained title of ........."AAaaaaarrgghhh"!!!!

What a total bummer !!

I am sure it will be fix-able ( For me it would be a luthier jobbie .....but I know you woodsmen are pretty darned handy )....but what a hassle.

Good luck with it Matey.............its a lovely guitar & worth fixing

Nurse - the screens! Jeez - that's like a scene from a horror film. :yikes:

Real bad luck. It's a weak spot up at the headstock there of course. But yeah - it should be fixable, and glued wood when done properly can be even stronger than the original wood.

Having seen that carnage I'm glad my Hagstrom did that sideways dive off her stand a few months ago onto a carpeted floor.

I have an 1968 Gibson Special that I bought on ebay - my best buy ever. It's has become an extension of myself. I noticed it hadn't any serial number so I asked the seller. It had slipped and cracked so the whole head was partly remade. (the back side, logo is intact) It's impossible to understand - if it not been for the missing serial number. Great job and the coloring is superb, nothing tells you it's been broken.

This is a typical problem of those Gibson-style (or classical) headstocks. Compare it to Fender - you seldom see a neck broken that way, it's a much better construction. Leo was a genius! But - those Gibson sound so goood..... :icon_whoknows:

Thanks for all the sympathy, guys. I guess I need to break down and get a couple of guitar stands for gigs.

Not far. It just fell over, but it landed face down, with the headstock past the edge of the stage.
A funny thing, after the Ibanez bit the dust, I grabbed my Strat, and two songs later, broke the high E string. I was almost afraid to pull out the Casino. The only spare string I had was a B string at about .14 or so. It worked though, and I will restring the whole guitar this week.
I did eventually nerve myself up to pull out the Casino, and I guess I had used up all my bad luck. Nothing dire happened for the rest of the night.

Not yet. I just stuck it in the case for a while.(couldn't bear to look at it  )
As soon as i find the right clamps, though, I am about ready to get on it.

First of all Blind Boy I can feel the pain as i look at that poor guitar. But let me cheer you up by telling that i had two guitars with a (formal) Neck crack. after repair i play them every day and on stage to The modern glue is after drying stronger than the wood before. Th only thing you have to take care of is moving the two parts when you tension the clamps. To take care that the wet glue makes the parts slippery i have used a simple trick. Place the neck on a small but strong (plastic ore better linen washcloth) filled whit sand. Than take two ore thee small nails. clip the head off at 1 nail, place the nail into a drill ore dremeltool and drill a hole on two ore more strategic places 5mm depth (off course into the thickest point )then put nails in the holes a gently hit whit an small hammer will do. Clipped off the nails c.a 5mm above the crack. Then place the other piece exactly on, and press gently. Remove the piece and as yo can imagine you can see the print-marks of the clipped nails. Than drilled the holes with the nail in the drill about 5 a 6 mm. Test if the two pieces are exact at there place. Than you too a couple of elastic strings you can clip from an old bicycle inner tube Attention place them before placing the head :high5: on the neck. Than take a meter thin rope (the brown smelly stuff of natural material) and make it soaking wet. Now you place the glue on 1 side. Place the pieces together so the nail stomps fit and keep the two parts at there places. With some help stretch the rubber bands and put them over the crack and so on. Than you wind the wet rope over the rubber bands as tight as possible, and tie it. (when the wet rope drys it will be shrinking !) If you don't have rope to wrap around you could use some tie rips, but they are a bit slippery if they are not placed at the pieces inner-tube. But rope will be do the job perfect. If you want some more info you welcome to mail me. But don't wait to long because the very small parts at the crack gonna disappear, and its gonna be harder and harder to repair
Grtz and goodluck

Well I glued her and clamped her this weekend, then last night I strung her up and played her a bit. We'll see how my repair holds up this coming weekend...

Well, I played the Ibanez exclusively for two gigs last weekend, and it held up fine. Stayed in tune, and sounded great.
The operation was a success.
