I hope that it is not as bad as it sounds.
But it is increasingly difficult to know how much to believe what appears in the mainstream media, where real journalism has been replaced with propaganda, hearsay, rumour and downright lies. That mistake in the article is no surprise either.

Yes - looks like they took a quote to make a story out of it. At least EC keeps on playing...

May it long continue.12bar wrote:At least EC keeps on playing...
I'm not keen on the way getting older and playing a musical instrument are not always a good match.
The increasing aches and pains and worse over the years are not on my wish list.

Face it. He is an older gentelman and has the right to have ailments. He does what he can to accept them in order to gain inner peace.
It is no secret that he is the man who has done himself harm with drugs and alcohol. There is not anyone getting away with injuries.
EC is famous and rich, but only human and can not withstand more than other people.
Put him not on the pedestal.

I am seeing this in other legendary guitar players. John Mclaughlin plays Jazz and he is on his final tour because of arthritis battles.
It is a sad situation, indeed, when father time slowly strips you of your abilities. But we can't overly dwell upon it or we rob ourselves of other options that might be out there.
My prayers go out for Eric.

Recently (January 25 I think) saw him in Paris (given kinda "private gig" at the Mogador Theatre)
He's still sounding like a Bluesbreaker so to speak...
VB was right 'bout this strange brew made of "news and propaganda"

I hadn't heard that about John McLaughlin. As with all players where poor health strips away abilities I feel very sad for him. I recall vividly the first time I saw him with the Mahavishnu Orchestra - one of those very memorable musical experiences I've had.
I know first hand about how arthritis curtails playing in a big way, and it does mean that playing is only really practical for short bursts if at all.
That does not fit the rigours of touring and a lengthy gig.

! Wow !
Thanks for those links ! Eric is quite a guy. He comes off very lucid, honest and even humble. ..he'd be okay if he had to give up guitar .. he said so -lol I think I have to buy that film.
Even I, a young buck in his mid fifties have to admit that I don't have the dexterity I used to. He's going to keep on as he can and I've heard some fine, fairly recent music from him. ..Gotta be an inspiration !
Cheers

Great links, and much more positive about where he is.
But then, the mass media aren't interested in happy stories or good news.
