Two versions of one song
Tried a new thing... Mike (my bass player) and I decided to do a duet set for our drummers showing at a local art gallery. I haven't done an acoustic gig in many years. It was very intimidating playing without drums, etc... No safety net.
Anyway, here is the tune at the gallery with just the two of us (someone decided to move a display in the middle of our song).

This is with one rehearsal...
Now, two nights later, I thought it might be cool to try the National clone out with the TWBB, and we had our friend Boomer sitting in on harp. So this is the same thing with the whole band.

It is clear to me that I need to find a better way to mike the National...
It was fun to get this guitar out in public...

I love the sound of a National, it's on my wishlist for a long time already, especially since I play a lot slide these days.
Funny how you keep playing at 0:54
Great playing, both acoustic and with the band. You should get more applause!
What brand do you play? And - open G tuning?

Thanks, Gerd. I love that sound too.
This is a Sterling... I can't find much about this guitar. Sterling is a mid range brand for Music Man, but I can't find any resophonic guitars in their lineup, and the logo on mine doesn't have the Music Man logo on it. The guy I bought it from years ago told me it was the last of the US built Sterlings.
Yes, here it is tuned to open G. I also tune it to D for a couple of songs.

Nice and slidey - great piece of acoustic blues duetting. Enjoyed the listen - great the way you just kept going amidst the bags and crashes!
It all works well in the band setting too. Tricky old thing to mike an acoustic just right in a live gig scenario! Out-with my experience so no advice from me I'm afraid.

Thanks BB - haven't heard of that brand before. Every now and then I look around at ebay for a used one, but all they have are cheap Johnsons.

Take a look at a catalogue called Lark in the Morning... they used to have a variety of them.12bar wrote:Thanks BB - haven't heard of that brand before. Every now and then I look around at ebay for a used one, but all they have are cheap Johnsons.

Gerd, I don't know what you guys in Europe have access to, but I just got off of Ebay, and they have tons of resophonic guitars. For a decent guitar at a reasonable price, look for Dean, Gold Tone, or Gretsch. Those are metal body, biscuit bridge roundneck guitars. Don't ignore the wood body reso's either. There are a bunch. I personally like the sound of a biscuit bridge reso' over the sound of a spider bridge (I have owned both). I have both a wooden and a brass body, and I like them both.

Thanks BB, over here (I only have a German ebay account) they aren't used that much, and even those few are overpriced.
But I keep looking, and I prefer a metal body, too!
