The Albert Dock complex is worth a wander around. Visit the 'Beatles' museum and the Tate Gallery(if you are into Art). Although I'm an Atheist, I can highly recommend the catholic cathedral (known as 'the Mersey Funnel'). A MUST is a visit to John Lennon's & Paul McCartneys childhood homes. (you need to get on the National Trust website for details. The guitar shop in the city centre is only 'average'. There is lots more if you've got transport.
