SO........I got home and was preparing this BT to upload, and somehow ended up putting a new set of strings on the Strat. Nothing gets you fired up to play like a twangy new set of strings! Decided to take another cut and post a new blues in C. Going for a little grittier SRV style sound. Hope this get the ball rolling on some great takes form ya'll. ( that's a south Texas thing)

Mission accomplished with a lot of style - really well played.tytlblues wrote:Going for a little grittier SRV style sound.
Quite some challenge to follow that - I hope to put something together, but it won't be red hot fluent blues like you've done there (not an option in my armoury) and unlikely to be till the weekend at the earliest ... busy, busy, busy just now .tytlblues wrote:Hope this get the ball rolling on some great takes form ya'll.

Nice job tytlblues... great bends and sweet tone. Some SRV feel for sure.
Ok, here is my take on it... You inspired me to try some SRV licks on this one too. Can't get too much SRV tone with a Casino tho...

Another great job on the SRV "style". Fluent and sparky.
With what you and tytlblues have done on this I'm glad I wasn't going to do a "SRV" version - the bar is set in the stratosphere for that style after these two versions.

Thanks tytlblues...
I like your jazzy post too... very sweet, if a bit over my head. Maybe we could start up a jazzy blues collab... I will dig out a backing track I was saving for such an occasion. I can't play jazz, but I can get a vaguely jazzy feel to my blues if I try. Might give me an excuse to dust off my Ibanez.

Yeah BB, that would be a lot of fun! I suspect you can mold your self to just about any genre for a good sound, from what I have heard of your playing so far.
Dust off that Ibanez, and I'll put a fresh set of .13's on mine.

Congrats to all of you guys, very nice playing and tone.
Here is my try. The backtrack is very catchy, but way out of my comfort zone too

Cool! I love hearing different takes on a piece of music.
HBL and Vancouverois, can't tell you're out of the comfort zone. Great tones and playing.

EDIT : PLEASE SEE POST 4 DOWN FROM HERE FOR A MUCH LESS EMBARASSING ATTEMPT. WHAT WAS I THINKING.
GENERAL WARNING TO ALL GUITARISTS - TOO MUCH REVERB IS BAD FOR YOUR MUSIC
Erm ... uh .... well. Cough! Clears throat.
download/file.php?id=1170
Tried to give this a live performance sound. I think the gig should have been cancelled. I hope my "Strat" forgives me.
On the plus side, anyone else wanting to post their effort will know they've got a great chance of their recording not being the worst attempt.
Think I'll go and do some slide lessons .... I'll get my coat ....

VB, your playing sounds nice
I think the reverb/echo is a tad overpowered, other than that it sounds good

Nice of you to find something positive in my recording VC - I wish I could feel the same.vancouverois wrote:VB, your playing sounds nice

I'd spent so long trying to get the recording done I think I posted it up just to get it out of the way. It took about 15 minutes to even get the guitar in tune with the BT - that's a sign that things are mis-firing straight away. I then had a long struggle trying to get a tone / sound that was a decent fit - in desperation I think I went a bit mad on the reverb / echo. I would maybe suggest it is over-powered slightly more than "a tad" - it was very generous of you to describe it like this VC. Hearing it again this morning it sounds like it recorded in a huge underground cave - HBL will have a fit if/when he hears it!
Listening to it again I'm not sure how relevant what I played was to the BT or whether I was just doing some generic one size fits all notes or maybe I'd got so frustrated by the technical problems I'd got into the wrong mindset ... but maybe it was all just not meant to be. Perhaps I'll revisit it and have a better go at it - could be it's just not a BT / style I can connect with.

I think I prefer this. Using the Hagstrom and losing the pick.
download/file.php?id=1171
My first attempt shows clearly how scrambled my head gets when I hit technical problems. When that happens I should stop and go and do something else.

This sounds better... The first one sounded like you didn't have your head around it, or your heart in it, or something. The second one sounds more like you are feeling it. Good job... Nice to hear the Hagstrom singing so sweetly.
