Another Becca and Blindboy original...

Post by Blindboy »

This one has a few issues... first,it is in 5/4 time, second, i am just noodling around trying to compliment Becca's dynamics and singing. That being said, I think it is kind of all right... It's a musical snapshot of what was happening on a Monday night at the Trainwreck Blues Band's open mic night.
This is a total Becca original tune with me backing her up. From a Monday open mic, at the bar, we did it as a duet, fueled by drinks. We have (and will again) done it better.

Becca is playing her Alvarez acoustic through the PA, I am playing the Casino through the 4/10 BluesDeVille (with the same settings that I used for the slide thing I posted earlier... That underscores the difference between the sound of the Casino and the SG.)
Not Blues, particularly, but I hope y'all like it.

I've listened to all your recent songs, but didn't have the time to comment, sorry. :icon_whoknows:
I do prefer the Casino sound over the SG, for me the SG PU's were too hot. Maybe it was the setup, but this one has a great tone!

The Casino tone is just beautiful, particularly in the hands of a certain Blindboy!

Really like the song - a lovely mix of voice and guitar tones - the two of you really combine so well musically.

5/4 time eh? ..... I run out of legs or something trying to play that time sig.

Very interesting to know that the Casino and SG were on the same settings.

There seems to be a conspiracy with SG guitars to make it a huge distorted monster of a guitar. Then you find that the likes of Robbie Krieger in his time with the Doors and Pete Townshend around the Live at Leeds time played SG specials with P90 pups and produced a wonderful range of tones including crystal clear clean sounds. I had an SG Standard for a while and it, even with humbuckers, could sing very sweetly - but all the sound samples on the Gibson website were full on metal / rock.
An improv a day keeps the demons at bay!

That was outstanding! I love the groove and the whole vibe. Excellent vocals and performance from both of you. Lovely tone and great timing in your playing. The lady vocalist sure has a lot of soul.

That was great!! I agree (with everybody else it seems) that your Casino sounds wonderful! Beautiful tone! But I'm not gonna be so quick to put your SG down. They're different instruments with different things to say. I wonder if beautiful tone might be limited in that it struggles to express emotions musically that simply aren't THAT beautiful?

Don't ask me to explain this! I just can't help but think that the SG' tone expresses some feelings that the Casino can't touch? And vice versa?

You can hear the throttle's close to wide open on that SG. Gives me goose bumps. Like goin' REAL fast!

Call me naive.

Liked 'em both BB!

Thanks guys... :shy:
Oneeyedslide, thanks for the kind words about the SG. You are quite right about the two guitars saying different things with different voices. As far as different settings go, this recording and the slide piece are played through the same amp with the same settings, the Casino is running about 7 on the guitar volume, the SG is running about 3. Both are played with fingers, not a pick. The difference is mainly the way hot pickups on the SG. I think that they are from some 'heavy metal' guitar from Epiphone. In their defense, they are better than what I replaced them with.

Horses for courses. Both guitars sound great with the slide. The P-90's in the Casino are more articulate and the SG has that angry *"pit-bull at the end of it's chain"* vibe. If a song called for articulate and angry(at some point), I'd opt for the Casino. But, if the song was "angry" or had a George Thorogood vibe, I'd grab the SG.

PS: Becca should let you post more of her stuff. She deserves the exposure. If the issue is copyright,...gitter done.

A class act....Casino tone sounds good and certainly fits in the song well, my '72 SG still has the original Gibson Humbuckers and is great for Blues/Rock but at any settings would get nowhere the tone you get from the Casino. (but then again I wouldn't expect it to) and Becca certainly has a great voice, the quality just oozes thru the speakers.
