Here is our attempt to cover an old Taj Mahal tune that I have always loved.

I don't know the original, but I will say this for your recording - I LOVE it Bb.
I'm getting to be very keen on the jazzier side of blues - must be my advancing years! The Casino's tone works great on this, which doesn't surprise me given the experiences I'm getting from my Casino-alike VSA590. All Hail the P90.
The group knits together very well on this one - love th ebass lines too.
I'm so impressed with your range Blindboy - that you can apparently so effortlessly cover this sort of delicate playing as well as the more driven "in yer face" blues (like "Angry Shuffle" say) leaves me in awe.

Blindboy ....this is a cracking song ....well done the band and goodstuff from the singer !!
I am a big Taj Mahal fan and like this song a lot ( with your 12 bar strap line I guess you do too !) ...
I think the super bass pattern really gives this tune a real platform and the short stabs on guitar and keyboard bring it alive
Top notch ..and more please !!

Thanks VB, glad you liked it. As for the original... find Taj Mahal's "Giant Step/De Old Folks At Home" album (CD). That's one of my "desert island" albums, and chock full of good music.VikingBlues wrote:I don't know the original, but I will say this for your recording - I LOVE it Bb.
Me too. The last couple of times out, I haven't even gotten the Frankenstrat out of the case.VikingBlues wrote:I'm getting to be very keen on the jazzier side of blues - must be my advancing years! Thanks, but it's all pretty much the same notes.VikingBlues wrote: I'm so impressed with your range Blindboy - that you can apparently so effortlessly cover this sort of delicate playing as well as the more driven "in yer face" blues (like "Angry Shuffle" say) leaves me in awe.
Thanks Strummer... I really am a big Taj fan. I can still remember when my Dad brought this album home the first time. I must have been about seven years old, but some of those songs just stuck in my head.Strummer07 wrote:Blindboy ....this is a cracking song ....well done the band and goodstuff from the singer !!

Re: Cakewalk into Town...
That was really cool!
When I saw the subject I couldn't wait to see what you would do with a great song - but which Taj arranged for tuba and handclaps.
(tuba and handclaps???! )
Yours was a super arrangement.
And I thought I heard very faint echoes of Caterpiggle Crawl.

You know, MojoJim, I was hoping you would dig this version. I knew that you had heard Taj's version, and I hoped that ours wouldn't disappoint.MojoJim wrote:That was really cool!

Caterpiggle Crawl was written by my Dad, and he taught me a lot about fingerpicking, so....
