Nearly 3 More Months

Every 3 months or so I realise I've not posted any music here, and usually also realise I've not done anything very bluesy.

Same this time! But in case anyone cares to try some other genres of an acoustic nature .....

:music1: Very loosely based on, and much changed from, a Martin Simpson arrangement of "The Green Linnet". So changed I've changed the name.

:music1:

Diamond House.mp3 - (2.49 MiB)

A tune by David White, a very skilled Luthier who trades under the name "De Faoite Guitars". He's a very good player too and writes a good tune. I wish I could do it more justice.

:music1: I cut the tip of my left hand index finger with a bottle and after a few days of not playing at all thought I'd try and play with just the middle and ring fingers of the left hand fretting notes. Can't use the little finger due to pain in joints. Had a go at improvising in DADGAD and recorded it. Yes it's slow, but I usually play slow as I like hearing the notes ring out. The fact it doesn't sound much different to when I can use my index finger too says more about my poor use of three fingers than my skill with two!

The first two are with the Vintage V2000MGG Gordon Giltrap all Mahogany guitar. The third one with the Vintage VE2000GG Gordon Giltrap cedar top.
A wonderful couple of acoustic guitars, especially at the ridiculously low prices.

Three little marvelous pieces of Music VB
Listening to your music reminds me the great Bill Frissell, specially "Slim Finch" and "Two Fingers for Fretting"
If I've some spare time, I might do some post-prod as I already did with your Dorian Improv ... If you please

Again lovely, peaceful music played with feeling!
It is really great how you capture the tone, so clear and crispy without noise.

Don't worry about the Blues, I'm again into spanish guitar, I like it a lot but don't master the technique...

Post-prod is no problem as far as I am concerned, if you fancy doing it. :D

If I can even get 10% of the texture and feel that Bill Frissell gets I'll be overjoyed. It's nice to know I can remind anyone of him.

Trying to get some feeling into the acoustic guitar playing is #1 priority for me and it's good to hear you say there's some there.

The sound is just captured on all three recording by a portable Zoom H3n recorder.
Just using it's own built in microphones on the Finch and Diamond House pieces.
The Two Fingers recording also has an Avantone CK-1 Omni microphone, and the guitars own DI (a blended internal mic & under-saddle piezo).
No post recording effects and no EQ adjustments.

The two Vintage Giltrap guitars do record well. That helps!

Thanks Tytl! :D

I think I'm finding my "voice" on acoustic playing and that's been helped a lot by finding the Vintage Gordon Giltrap guitars. I find myself distracted sometimes when playing by just how great they sound. Funny - I've tried Martins, Taylors, Guilds, and had a Guild, a Lowden and access to a Taylor - but I've settled on two guitars each under £400.
