Pinkie Pain Blues in B

Post by VikingBlues »

I feel I need to have another go at electric bluesy stuff every so often.

But it's getting more painful every time - the pinkie on the left hand is hardly any use for playing notes and if I'm bending notes a lot with the ring finger the muscle movements send me nice little pain signals from the joints of the pinkie.

I guess it's about as good as it could be for a once every few months attempt.

PRS SE on the bridge pickup and the Vox Tonelab LE. A Marshall style amp setting with a hint of tube OD plus some reverb and delay.

It is! Even if the pinkie usually isn't used that much, playing with pain is a hard thing to do. Great tone out of your LE!

If the pain gets too much, try a slide...

Sweet! I like hearing your blues excursions. Great tone,by the way.
Do I recall correctly that you put Lollar p-90's in that guitar?. I'm still working on trading for that vintage Gibson, but if it doesn't work out I might look into those for my Casino.

Thanks Blindboy - nice to know I can still tap into electric blues at least a bit. :D
You're right that it was replacement pickups in the PRS SE, but it was Toneriders. Much more the budget route than Lollars!

Alnico II "Vintage" - which seems to have been my go to magnet for replacement pickups.
They were a huge improvement on the stock PRS P90s which just couldn't get decent sustain however I adjusted them ... they were just too "hot" I feel.

The LE does remarkably well for a non-amp route. I've tried various more up to date multi fx units with so many more bells and whistles, but the LE wipes the floor with them on its basic amp sim tones. It has the great virtue of having manual pedals, knobs and buttons for all the different functions so it's very user friendly. No multi function buttons and layered menu systems thankfully. It's also built like a tank!

The slide option is one that I could well end with one day.
But till then I'm hoping common sense, and lower tension strings will delay things for many years yet. :fingerscrossed:

I realy like the VB-sound. Its a sweat sound with a bit of overdive. And I think you can play just the same without stress youre pinkie.

Cheers
