Pretty Slow

Post by Blindboy »

Put some new strings on for the open mic tonight, so I decided to break them in a bit.
The BT name is 2slow, and it almost is... It's tough to play to something this slow, especially when I have been doing more energetic stuff lately.

Need to find time to listen to all the new posts... Been busy on the forum since I have logged on.

Nice minor blues.......very smooth sound. Like the BT, sort of jazz like. As always, the Casino sounds good!

The Casino tones would be good playing 'Three Blind Mice' in your hands Bb.

Good job here with a tough BT - very soulful and expressive and in the groove. The music has a good strong pulse despite the slow pace. Love the dynamics and light and shade - classy playing basically. Nice to hear a recording from you - it's been a wee while since the last.

You handle youre guitar very genle . It's a good thing. You seem to have complet control of the instrument. You now exacltly how to handle the strings to get a clear or a dist sound.
Very soft and smoth. I like it.

Thanks for the compliment Michael... sometimes I feel like the instrument has complete control over me instead...

Thanks 12bar... I don't remember what setting I used, from the sound, a Bassman model, maybe a Tal Farlow or T-Bone Walker preset with modifications...

I am very flattered! I don't know if this is HoF material, there are some clams, here and there, but I left them in there because I liked the overall feel. If I had wanted to fix the mistakes, I would have had to re-record the whole thing. :wall:

I agree. You hardly hit the strings. I have wonderd many times way you are so gentle with youre guitar ?

Hmmm... That's an interesting comment, MR. I do stroke the strings gently sometimes, but I also yank them hard enough to break them, too. I try to work the dynamics of my playing to express what I think the song requires, or what I want to say, or what I am feeling at the time. On this song, I was trying for a mellow, tasteful approach to a very slow song. On something like this... http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9163469 , I am trying for a tension and release kind of feel. (That is the mood I was in at the time. )

Gentle? I have yanked the neck plumb off of my Strat before, doing neck bends. :shy: Here is a thread showing the scars on that guitar. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=369&hilit=relicking ... ankenstrat
Here is another thread showing how rough I actually am on my guitars.
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=477
Becca, a young woman who I play music with, has told me that sometimes I don't build the tension up enough, or let it drop off too soon. On other occasions, I feel that I overdo it. (especially with the wah pedal  ) I guess it just shows where I am on the journey. Ya never stop learning.

 Great tune, Bb... you should play more of these slow blues songs, this one sounds fine. I love your dynamics and placement of spacing.

The Tone is just brilliant .. Lush and right on the cusp .. so some notes are clean-ish .. and then you get a great rasp every now and then
