New Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe

Post by BadBluesPlayer »

Got a new (used) LP Studio Deluxe Sunburst last Saturday. Paid about $900.00 for it. It's about a year old. It has a couple of dings in it, but otherwise is pretty mint.
It hasn't hardly been played. The fretboard was really dry so I oiled it with teak oil.

Anyway, here are some pix:

Nice one BBP. Looks in great nick and at a good price too.

Look forward to hearing it!

Is it the one with the coil tap? I seem to recall there being something like that which was different to the usual studio.

As much as I dig the standards and the flametops, I have to say, i am a sucker for the zebra pickups. That finish looks great, better than any studio i've seen. GREAT FIND!!! :D :D :D :D

Really beautiful guitar, BBP.

How did you explain it to your 339?

Superb Guitar BBP .......certainly does not look very 'used' .Sparkles like a new'un!!

Great photo's too !!

Are you trying to convince your partner that it was a really handy thing to buy as it will double up as a foliage /flower arrangment receptacle ?? :icon_whoknows:

Thanks for the compliments everybody. I have been looking for that exact model for awhile.

I never understood why they sell different models in different countries. This model is a Guitar Center exclusive model - it probably was bought at Guitar Center (a US guitar chain store) or Musician's Friend (an on-line dealer). It's in great shape. The guy must have only played it a few times.

@viking - There are coil taps. You can pull up the volume knob for each pickup and it will turn it into a single coil pickup. The neck pickup sounds pretty good. The bridge pickup - not so good on the single coil setting. It has a 409 in the neck and a Burstbucker Pro in the bridge. They sound great. I might try a Burstbucker in the bridge of my 339.

@lefty - The finish is really nice. I like the plain top. As far as the pickups go, I like covers. I'm going for the Duane Allman look (for the guitar, not for my hair  ) so I'll probably get some nice chrome covers.

@mojo - I kept the 339 and the LP in seperate rooms for awhile. I actually thought my wife wouldn't notice the new one. How dumb was that?

@strummer - That's funny about the wife - we're still working through the guitar envy issues. There may be a guitar sale in my future. My wife has some great plants around that work good for guitar pictures!!

Pretty guitar. I have never heard of the a studio deluxe.

I have a Les Paul Special which I love. The thing about it is that sells used for about $500 (used) but it has the same hardware as a standard. The only thing is it's basically a stripped down Les Paul - no arch top or binding. Mine is just like the one below:

Mine has amazing action and intonation. It stays in tune (while bending, etc) better than my 1997 Les Paul Standard which cost three times as much.

I am just saying that for people who want a Les Paul for $500 I found the special to be a very satisfactory guitar.

But it isn't as pretty as your new one - for sure.
