GAS attack of the Resonator Kind
BROUGHT IT HOME FRIDAY 27TH LATE MORNING.
Gretsch Roots Collection G9240 Alligator Biscuit Roundneck
Laminated Mahogany Body/Back/Sides/Neck
Fingerboard Radius 15.75" (400 mm) Rosewood Fretboard
25" (635 mm) Scale Length, Bone Nut
D'Addario EJ16 Phosphor Bronze Light Strings (.012-.053 Gauges)
Biscuit Bridge - Hard Maple with Ebony/Maple Saddle
Tried a few Resonators - this one certainly says blues in it's tone particularly when a slide is used. The biscuit style bridge helps I guess. The tone is also what you'd expect from all that mahogany. Action is low enough to be able to play fretted notes OK, though full barres higher up the fretboard are best avoided - certainly not too low for slide unless you really dig the slide down on the strings.
Been having a lot of fun playing it the last 24 hours. Will record some sounds in due course.

Lovely!
Really like the mother of pearl headstock.
I suspect that it sounds great (I have a mahogany biscuit bridge reso too.) and I am sure that it will give you some real blues inspiration. Can't wait to hear some samples.

Re: GAS attack of the Resonator Kind
Thanks for the positive comments guys!
I'm really enjoying playing this Alligator. Sandra found me lying on the couch last night still playing the thing and said she was worried she wouldn't be able to prise it out of my hands when it was time for my bed.
I've put together a few sounds. Though it goes downhill a bit after the first bit with slide and a backing track. Though I cringe at some of the badly missed notes on the slide part - oops! I'm very tired due to lack of sleep - so my playing was not too hot (hardly even warm) - but hopefully it'll give a decent idea of it's sound.
There seems to be more variation in the sound due to different microphone placement when playing the Alligator than when playing the Tanglewood acoustic.

At some point I'll need to do a proper full recording or two.

Re: GAS attack of the Resonator Kind
Thanks for the sound sample. Now considering I have to buy me a Dobro, but I'm not sure slide and other features. Probably I would get tired pretty quickly on practicing. I do not have so much desire and energy left to play. Tries most to play occasionally. My interest in real serious playing have vanished long ago. Now I collect most of my guitar stuff in a small hope that the urge comes to life sometime in the future.
Unfortunately, I have so little desire to guitar playing and it has become a compulsion rather than an interesting and rewarding hobby.............
