Amp and speaker cabinet

Post by MichaelRobinson »

Hi

I got tired of looking good sound out of the gadgets I have. Now I am considering an amplifier and speaker cabinet.

Do anyone know anything about these? http://www.thomann.de/se/bugera_333xl_infinium.htm and http://www.thomann.de/se/bugera_412hbk.htm

I'm just watching a demo of this amp, not bad at all though it seems quite heavy metal/rock oriented.

I agree with Bellogi about power and neighborhood as well as micing the amp at high volume.
I have a combo 100W tube amp thats is very heavy, even when I was playing in a band the volume knob was at 4 or 5 max.
Guys in the band were asking me to lower my amp....

Another thing to keep in mind is the weight and the room the cabinet takes. If you play outdoor do
you have access to a car large enough to carry it, elevator or stairs also have to be taken into account.
I used to live at the third level without elevator, I had to carry the amp (around 35/40 kg), a box
with the effects and cables plus at least one guitar in its case, sometimes two.
When I was coming back, same stuff and the worst was this time climbing up with the weight.
It was twice a week the same thing
After a while I bought a smaller solid state 30W amp that sounded good to practice.

The sound of tubes is the best, but tubes need to be played loud to get the best out of them.
Some say a 30W tube amp is already Ok at band volume.
Another thing is a gadget like my Tonelab gives me different type of amp sounds, although it's far from being perfect.
With an amp, unless it has modelization, you have the sound of this amp only.

I follow the advice to get me an amp with less power. I have thought about the use of mic. My current power amplifier is on 2x150W. It is a PA amplifier.
I can blow the ears of the neighbors, if I want.

It may be something like the Bugera V22. It seems more normal than I first thought.

Thank's a lot for the help.
