New Amp - Silverface Champ

Post by BadBluesPlayer »

Every dog has his day. This morning I found a Champ.

'78 chassis with '79 xfmrs. Paid $225.00. Works fine, sounds good. Speaker is some kind of Chinese thing and needs an upgrade - suggestions welcome.

Here it is:

Oh yeah!!

Looks clean - I haven't looked inside yet:

It looks like it had some work done on it by Rover:

Nice! Looks clean (except for "Rover's" work). Probably sounds good too.
If you are looking for a speaker, (I think that is an 8"?) I would look for a Jensen bluecone (NOS or reissue) or modify it for a Celestion G-10. (what I would do)
Looks like a good find.

Very cool! Rovers work just adds to the mojo, maybe a webber for a speaker I'm sure they make something that would retain that vintage champ tone. Dan

Very nice amp, a bit of history really. My nephew has a seventies Vibrochamp which looks very similar. The two prominent makes of speaker would be Jensen or Weber I think oh and Eminence come to think of it. Anyway enjoy your new baby, it certainly looks good despite the canine customisation.

Looks good despite the canine attention - sure it'll sound good too. Hope we get to hear it when you've got it upgraded!

Good price too.

I've decided to put a Weber 8A100T speaker in there. I can't wait for it. It'll take them about 3 weeks to make it.
