Lost spark

Lost spark ............. I bought a book about fingerpicking blues. With curiosity I opened the book and began to flip through it. Corners of the mouth dropped significantly. This book assumes that you can read music and there as if it were normal text. It can not be me and put me down and teach me the notes as a running water, I have no desire to. It is a mountain to climb. I give up. I think I'm too old to start learning things that could be done for almost a lifetime ago when it was easy to learn and had the desire to learn.

Thanks for letting me write me off a little.

You mean certainly well, 12bar. The problem is that he talks more than teach in this video. I learned nothing.

You have my sympathy Michael.

In round terms I think I have pretty well loathed nearly every guitar instruction book I have had, and the majority of them have done no good to my progress at all.

Nearly everything I've seen lesson wise about finger picking whether it's been book or video has been a huge big turn off, and they have had my brain shutting down and my attention wandering to other things.

I do most of my learning on JamPlay and have done for a good few years now. There are 5 fingerstyle teachers on the site. To be honest I have not managed to feel connected with any of them. Way too much in the way of finger assignments, set picking patterns, rules and regulations etc.

Give me playing acoustic Hawkeye Herman style any day - he doesn't teach patterns, doesn't assign fingers to notes, doesn't tell you which notes to play in a fill - he doesn't play a piece twice the same way anyway. That's the way I like my music and he really gets my enthusiasm going for trying to be a guitarist that plays like me. Bad as I might be.

Sorry i have no magic answer for your problem.

VB ..... I thought it was just me that was misplaced in a bunch here at 12 bar. I thought it was only me who did not understand how. Now I understand that I am not alone. It seems rather that there are many in the community who are experiencing fingerstyle blues playing problematic.

I took a look at Hawkeye Herman and he'll actually learn out faster than anyone else. I finally got a simple explanation what the turn round is and how easy it is to change key.
May well take me out if he has something about fingerstyle.

It was certainly good to know that I'm not the only one who has been difficult for fingerstyle in this forum.
