Branching out (Scales!)

Post by StratLover2 »

Hi all!

I have recently started playing more varieties of scales (Lydian, Aeolian, Phyrigian, etc.), to widely develop my playing, and already, I have found that within a minute of picking up a new scale, it has already improved my playing tons. It is amazing to me, that how I thought that my playing had gone static from using the major/minor pentatonic/Dorian scale for so long, has now been re-vitalized with these new modes...

I can appreciate your excitement at what the modes can bring to enhance playing. It's amazing the difference just two additional notes can make to the pentatonic for any of the modes. Much more fun when instead of pursuing the theory (gets very rapidly baffling for me) to focus on what each modes sounds like to teh ears. Enjoy the new shades of colour and tones and moods that emphasis on the extra notes can bring as a key part of lead melodies.
