This guy is outta hand!!!!

Post by Blindboy »

Lately, a few people have been trying to convince me that I should enter the Guitar Center King of the Blues guitar contest... Now I don't really believe in guitar contests anyway, (it isn't a race, is it?) but, when I checked out the prize list (a Sheridan and an Egnater tube amp for regional!!!), I looked into it... This guy wasn't even the winner, but check him out... He's on a three string cigar box guitar with what looks like duct tape holding it together, and he makes me want to chuck my guitar in a corner, let alone enter a contest with him! :yikes:

Super clip .....That is some amazing guitar Bb !!
the six string stuff is just astonishing !

I'll give it two weeks and I think your have it down by then !! :D

I agree with you about Competitons ... and music ......music is about expression and feeling as well as technique ... Competitions are more about performance and being flash and adding fireworks !!

Still, (h'mmm... Thinks of Prizes ) its gotta be worth a try out !!

This guy was the winner... At the level of playing of these guys, I would be hard pressed to say one was better than another.

1st guy gets my vote !!

Way more feeling and a whole bluesier appraoch .the blond guy ( randy ) is more jazzy and middle of the road .... good but not such a 'real' Blueser

Beardie / Cigar Box man ............Is a Blues Man for sure !!

His acoustic slide playing is excellent, great feel and technique, but his playing on the cigar box just blows me away. Incredible

First fella probably gets my vote too; second guy was alright, just didn't seem like there was much guts in it.

Also, does anyone else realllllly not like (okay.. hate) the sound of the acoustic guitars they make them play on? To each their own, of course, but they sound wimpy to me.

Yes, the first guy is the kinda blues man I really like, the second is way to smooth for me!
The three-string is similar to one Seasick Steve over in UK plays (although he's from States originally) ... well worth a look for anyone not come across him before. You Tube Seasick Steve will bring up a lot of his stuff, also Wiki for his story. Gotta go now to make myself a Diddly Bow!!!

The first one was way more of a player than the second to me. The second was less blues and more jazz to me.

Blonde is good but for me he is just another good player, nothing special. Pine Cone, on the other hand, is very original. I don't think there are too many people around who could duplicate his music. I guess it's a good thing that I'm not a judge because I would have picked Pine Cone.

Wow, this Pinecone guy has it all going on; great blues name and stage presence, cigar box mystique, killer playing, and tons of soul. Thanks for posting the link. I definitely prefer his playing over the winner but I never went for the mainstream stuff.

You're playing some fine slide yourself on your dobroman vid Bb. That's the life; relaxing on the deck, smelling the pine trees, and digging on some good tunes.
Cheers!
