Enjoying a double CD set

Post by VikingBlues »

It had been in my Amazon basket for months. Wish I'd got it sooner. :wall:

Double CD. Hot Foot Powder/Robert Johnson Songbook - Peter Green Splinter Group.

Beautiful.

Particularly enjoying the quieter acoustic style small number of instrument tracks. PG has always to my ears had a knack for this style - his pre Fleetwood Mac amateur home recordings with Duster Bennet showed this.

Anyway - the ones like this I most like:-

His hoarser voice with the passing years fits in well with these kind of songs.

Superb CD and great interpretation of Robert Johnson's music ( Pre-dates EC's version by a couple of years too) very stripped back and accessible rendition of some Blues Classics...PG .. brings them right up to date , gives them an old 'fresh' feel

Love in Vain is just a peach of a track

But my current favorite is "Dead Shrimp Blues" .......wonderful !!

Hey, thanks for the heads up on the Peter Green album, didn't know he did one on Robert J, I'll check it out.

Can't help but agree there Strummer. It's good but it's up against something with a special resonance (for my ears).

More difficult! :wall:

Eric's vocal is clearer and it's easier to hear all the words, Peter's vocal has more of an emotional ring to it. Comparing a live one acoustic guitar + vocal performance to a studio recording of 2 guitars, harp, backing chorus and vocals ........ I think it's impossible. Can we settle for both?! :icon_whoknows:
