A huge shock - especially because he looked in good fettle on his recent tour.
A unique player who followed his own unique path. RIP.

It shows that a good song / tune can be played in a lot of different arrangements.

By a coincidence I was just watching the Jeff Beck version of this at Ronnie Scotts with Tal Wilkenfeld (then just 21) on bass.
