What a great crossover!!!!
Loved it, and I have a feeling I prefer it to the original.

The more conventional end of the Scott Henderson range. I enjoyed it.
They know how to build a piece!!!
I found a video of that trio with Scott Henderson and Billy Cobham in it that I mentioned in another of your threads.

Certainly a line up that could add the word "power" to trio!

The "One and Only" Chris Cain!
You might enjoy Chris Cain jamming with Matt Schofield... Simply a great lesson of playing rhythm guitar!

Never heard of these guys before, not on air in my country. During holidays I heard this song on radio and thought about who played it. Some Led Z., a bit Jefferson airplane, a Clapton lick and wah-wah tone.
I liked it from the very first notes. Special voice, good guitar and the song itself on the level of Stairway, Child in Time or Nothing else matters.
I googled and found Greta van Fleet - seems to be a very much hated band. Don't know why, I posted the link in a Clapton Group (because EC was mentioned as a main influence) and was thrown out of the group and blocked immediately. So there must be something controversial I don't get...

Don't know why they would be hated either! But there's so much on-line hate about pretty well everything in recent times.
Being blocked / thrown out of that group is ridiculous - seems like they have no faith in being able to persuade someone why their own views differ.
Typical of how democracy seems to work nowadays - we have power, we don;t like what you say so we won;t allow you to express your views.
Definitely some Led Zep influence and I can see where the Clapton influence can be assumed. I rather like it too.
My current musical explorations are all over the place.
Things like the group Wardruna, here helped out by Aurora. This song wormed it's way into my head when I first heard it and it took several days to move it from a constant loop in my mind.

Anything with Celtic influence also often takes my fancy - like the works of Auri.

Bit of a spin off from Nightwish, but hated by a fair few of that groups fans. There's the on-line hate thing again!
I think there's plenty of room in the world, and in my listening for both.

My son is listening a lot to Nighwish, so I've heard of Auri before. Real handmade music.
Back when I was young I listened a lot to Renaissance, both first and second lineup, which had also mixed folk, classic and rock elements combined with a great voice.

Renaissance is a good choice Gerd! Annie Haslam's voice was a thing of great beauty and matched the musical style perfectly.
Though I hadn't realised there were two line-ups to the band. I obviously arrived slightly late at the party!
I do like a mix of rock, classical and folk, and if the classical includes older styles that's even better.
I find crossover music can really make for a more interesting listening experience when done well.

In fact, there also was an intermediate lineup. Some nice tracks are on YT:VikingBlues wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 11:01 pm Though I hadn't realised there were two line-ups to the band. I obviously arrived slightly late at the party!

Re: Currently listening to...
Apologies for the long absence from posts - what happens to spare time in retirement!
My ignorance is even bigger than i first thought!!
If you'd played me that Widecombe Fair without me knowing who it was i don't think I'd ever have guessed it however long I was given!
I also shows I guess how musicians can take some time to find a style that is their own.
Many thanks for posting these.
I remember hearing an album of VERY early Jan Akkerman playing. Nothing really at that point to suggest how stellar his playing would get.
On which topic - he didn't lose his touch in later years ....

Another fine custom guitar used here.

Hi Gerd
Thanks for those links - my apologies for taking so long to reply and my absence from here.
Life getting in the way and time speeding up in retirement too!
I hadn't heard that acoustic Hocus Pocus - Wow!!! Surprised he didn't set the fingerboard alight!
I remember the Paco De Lucia combo work with him. I was a big fan of both of them. You're right on the guitar effect sound on this one though - shame.
Paco De Lucia made the step that not so man pro classical and flamenco players make of moving into improvisation.
I remember him saying he learnt how to do improvs on stage playing with Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin - sound like learning to swim by being dropped into the middle of the Atlantic. He said he had severe headaches at the end of every concert from the tension.
By the way your 3rd link in the post above goes to the same De Lucia / Akkerman video as the second link.
Back on Akkerman, I'm not sure whether I've linked this video previously here, but I love this Focus one - my intro to Focus when they appeared on the Old Grey Whistle Test and stole the show. I ran straight out and got the Focus 3 album. Loved that line up of Akkerman, van Leer, van der Linden and Ruiter.
