R.I.P. Matt Guitar Murphy - dead at 88

Post by 12bar »

Another great Blues guitar player left us - R.I.P., Matt!
Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, the Blues Brothers - he played with so many artists and also had his own band.

I was lucky enough to see him play in a bar in Oklahoma City, back in the 80's. He played an amazing set, then took a break. I approached him at the bar and introduced myself and shook his hand. He was friendly, but so drunk he couldn't speak coherently. I talked to (at) him for a few more minutes, then returned to my seat. Matt got back onstage and played another amazing set. I found it hard to belive how good he was, considering how drunk he was. I'm glad he lasted as long as he did. He was a true great artist of the blues.
