I have had "Road to Escondido" down in my top 10 of best CD's almost since it was released.

Great portfolio of songs

Thanks for the Music Buddy

Wow... J.J. Cale was a really big influence on me. I learned to play leads playing along with his first couple of albums many years ago. RIP J.J..

Another sad loss to the world of good music. RIP JJ.

I'd had hoped I'd heard the last of heart attacks for a while after an apparently healthy work colleague somewhat younger than me died from one a couple of days ago.

Yesterday on German TV (BR) I saw the end of a great movie about JJ, "Auf Tour mit J. J. Cale - To Tulsa and Back ". It's a German 90 min video from 2005, available at Amazon.de. Eric as well as many other popular musicians gave interesting interviews, and the movie was about JJ touring and visiting interesting places in his life.
I hope they will show it again!

I was/am really saddened by this. He was the biggest musical icon for me (my blog is about JJ too: http://pickingjjcale.blogspot.fi/ ). I am VERY glad I flew from Helsinki to Oregon in 2009 just to see him live (4 times in 7 days, actually). Talked to him twice there too.

I was thinking of writing an obituary / interview article to the local blues mag. We'll see.

They released a rarities album a few years back. At that time the record company's site had a note that there might a rarities box coming too, if there's enough interest. I hope they do open the vaults (the complete 2009 tour was recorded by band member Dave Teegarten on his Zoom H2s and H4s, for example). I will be buying everything they'll put up for sale. I do have a stack of bootlegs and the bootleg rarities album too, bunch of those are now available for easy streaming on youtube for anybody who's into checking them, here's one for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7YzlE2Rv1Y

I never had the chance to see him live, although his music certainly had a big influence on me. If you do the article, let us know!

Weelie , that is a very special Photo you have of you and the man !
What a lovely memory !
Been watching the press to see if here was any news of his funeral .. but in typical JJ Cale "Keep me outa the Spotlight" style .. nothing at all.
Been playing his music and enjoying it all over again this past week or so.
Great legacy !

Well spotted Weelie ! ..Your search engine is way better than mine !

But linking JJ Cale and McCabe's

It seems that 4 days ago there was some sort of Tribute /Memorial which included EC and Jim Keltner

Way to go ! ..Good tribute ...and whilst appreciating the sensitivity of it all ......I do hope some details and foootage emerge, as and when, so we can appreciate and remember this Top man as well !

as well as on the Crossroads site:

BTW - tomorrow the next Crossroads guitar festival starts in NYC. I wish I could be there...

Strummer,
on ec fan facebook:

It was strictly private, invitation only, family and very close friends
and bandmates. Eric did "Cocaine" and "After Midnight;" Don White did
"Magnolia." For a little while, we had Teegarden and Van Winkle and Eric
all playing together.

Thanks Weelie ...three great songs.

Magnolia is a cracker ... amazing that both Magnolia and AfterMidnight came from his Debut album "Naturally" ( Plus "Call Me the Breeze" ) what an album to start your career with

As I mentioned before .. what a lovely legacy he's left us !

JJ said in some interview that George Harrison (a year or two before his death) said he loves that Naturally album, "have you done others since?" Well, only like a dozen albums, said JJ laughing.

Also JJ said that he never really liked Magnolia. But seems that everybody else loves it, so I have to play it every time, which is fine...

Have you guys ever heard the ORIGINAL after midnight that EC copied? From 1966. Sounds quite like the Clapton version. Of course teh Clapton version I think of is not the one that they nowadays play on radio (they play the 1987 Michelob beer version). JJs classic version is from 1972, I believe, Clapton's first hit version is from 1970.

The '66 version is on http://guitarman.fr/samples.php

EC really copied it, I didn't know the '66 from JJ and I always believed EC arranged the song to his liking.
Thanks for posting it Weelie.

Clapton said at the memorial that Cale was like the big brother he never had, here:
