Farewell Ravi Shankar

Post by Strummer07 »

Ravi Shankar (the father of Norah Jones) and the Sitar legend who Taught Oor George (Harrison) to play Sitar has died aged 92.
His other daughter Anoushka Shankar performed superbly at the tribute "Concert for George" and wwas at his side when he passed away .

I know its not exactly Blues news , but he was a lovely soft peaceful man who brought the sitar and eastern music to the fore.

I fear he may just be signposting the exit for many other superb muso's, currently in the Twilight of their years !

Sad news indeed - a very gentle and musical man who built a lot of bridges between cultures and musical styles.

He could play Indian music in a way that made it much more approachable and listenable for someone versed in western musical modes. His influence and help for George Harrison had a strong impact on music back when I was young (I can just about remember that).

RIP Ravi.
Playing Sitar is so hard compared to playing guitar! The concert for George is a must have DVD, no doubt.
