Eric Clapton New Album 2010!
Re: Eric Clapton New Album 2010!
Bought the album today on itunes (no big fan of cd's).
So far I can say that I like it. Some songs that sticks out.
My experience is that your favourite albums are those that don't blow you away right away, they need to grow on you.
This one seems to be like that.

I'm just glad that the iTunes and Amazon bonus tracks are available for individual purchase. That really made my day. Midnight Hour Blues is fantastic.
I used to be tombstoneblues.
Re: Eric Clapton New Album 2010!
Tombstone, could you provide a link for the bonus track? :)
Only got the one from itunes...

Some reviews...
I think it's definitely time for a live in the 90's box.

Re: Eric Clapton New Album 2010!
12 bar I am in the same corner as you i think ........I appreciate that all opinions are completely subective ....so some may really like this album .others will hate it............
So on the basis that this is just an opinion...and its mine !!................................
I've sort of rated it as about 3.0 - 3.5 stars .better than Back Home .....almost on a par with Reptile ...(there's a couple of tracks on there I really like and Erics guitar is a bit more in evidence on that Album )
I don't think "Clapton" is going to earn Eric a lot of new fans .....Will he care about that ???.....I think not !!
I have it down as a 'nice' album , very laid back and understated .....it sort of smoulders...... .but never gets to burst into anything. Its certainly retro and almost every track takes you back to the mid 40's - mid 50's............With one or two 'Hot' tracks added ..........with a bit of blistering EC guitar ..............it could have come to life a bit, and even goine to 4* ....... But, as it is ....it chugs along happily for an hour and 2 mins .
Singing is good and there 's some nice changes in his voice that seem to suit the mood of the track.. 'Hard Time Blues' he gets a nice lazy catch in his voice.
I really like Autumn Leaves....... .its a lovely interpretation of a great song
Stand out tracks ...............if "Stand Out" is Quite the right descriptor
"Run Back to Your side".....good driving Blues Track
"Diamonds made from Rain"...has grown on me...good voice and 2 nice guitar solo's, like the tone on the guitar.
"Travellin Alone" ...a good opener track....Driving blues .........quite "Canned Heat" ...I'm on the Road Again ! Like the guitar on this too
"Cant hold Out Much Longer" -- good Harmonca .. solid Blues song .....raspy guitar solo as well right at the end
Nice listening stuff .........."Rocking Chair" .. laid back .. back-porch stuff
"How Deep is the Ocean" .......music to fall asleep to !!
Not for me .
"When sombody thinks your Wonderful" .........Straight out of New Orleans Bourbon Street ......Jazzy .......Yuk ! .. fast forward >>>>>>
I'd almost put "My very Good friend the Milkman" into this category too.....too jazzy for me .but a bit of fun .......perhaps
and disappointing
River Runs Deep.............goes nowhere . I feel EC has done JJ Cale enough
Looking at the tracks before buying the cd ....I had hoped that EC would really do something special with them ....the songs felt like they had promise in the right hands ................The album feels like it falls short .a bit !
Still quite glad to have the cd .....if only for Autumn Leaves

Re: Eric Clapton New Album 2010!
I have tickets for a May Gig at the RAH ..and no they did not come free with my CD .........I bloody wish !!!!
He's doing his own thing in the UK and ending up in London at the RAH .17-24th May 2011
and the he's doing 2 days with Winwood 26/27th May 2011.....................
Having seen EC and SW this year ..................If there was an option I'd actually rather see EC with Derek Trucks or Crow I think
Or Kim Wilson who plays a great harmonica on the Clapton album.

Re: Eric Clapton New Album 2010!
Just got my copy today.
Not bad and I think it needs to be listened a few times just to get used to its sound and flavor.
Although the guitar playing is always spot on the vocals have another dimension.
A different album but not bad at all.

HBL..............has your whizzy , extra special version of "Clapton" arrived yet ??
I guess with all that 24k Gold on the cd.......... .your mail man probably decided to run off with it and melt it down.
Is the Guitar Lithograph handy? Nice , worth having ?
