Cindy Lauper Memphis Blues

Post by Golfxzq »

Have any of you guys checked out Cindy Lauper's new CD, "Memphis Blues"? Yea.. I said Cindy Lauper... the rock singer. I got a copy today and most of the tunes are really good. Very bluesey, surprisingly enough. She features a lot of blues musicians, including BB King. I'm not pushing Lauper albums... I was just impressed enough that I thought some of you might want to check it out.

No opinion yet, but the voice is OK for Blues.

This 6 minute clip has short samples of the tracks.

This does sound a bit different to the Cyndi Lauper I would expect - does sound nice and bluesy but I'd need to listen to more of it to form an opinion! Can be a good thing for the blues when a high profile non-blues artsist takes an interest as a lot of their fans might pick up an interest in blues through it.

Thanks for the post golfxzq - I'd never heard anything about it.

:D I've got the entire CD... listening to it right now.. IMO it is great. I am a sucker for female vocals. Here is the line up:

Just Your Fool -- featuring Charlie Musselwhite
Shattered Dreams -- featuring Allen Toussaint
Early In the Mornin' - featuring Allen Toussaint & BB King
Romance in the Dark
How Blue Can You Get - featuring Jonny Lang
Down Don't Bother Me - featuring Charlie Musselwhite
Don't Cry No More
Rollin' and Tumblin' - featuring Ann Peebles
Down So Low
Mother Earth - featuring Allen Toussaint
Crossroads - featuring Jonny Lany
Wild Women Don't Have the Blues

I really like most of them (not so much >> Mother Earth & Crossroads - probably too jaded by EC)
I wish I could post them, but I'm sure that would land someone in jail... and I don't want that to be me!

Me too - I often decide not to listen to a group / artist where the lead vocals are male due to the vocal being not to my taste - I very rarely decide not to listen due to female lead vocals.

Not bad at all.
I remember she was in "The Wall" tour of the early 90s with Roger Waters.

She talks about the album and the blues

Maybe there's a trend going on? :icon_whoknows:

Not such a big jump as Cyndi Lauper perhaps, but from the "pop world" Sandi Thom's new album sounds a bit of a move to the blues fields.

I'm not biased as she's from Scotland, and loves the early Peter Green work. ....... OK, I am biased!

Having your own record label can be good for your musical choices - no marketing men leaning on you!

Here's hoping that this is another sign of the continuing health of real music.

Steve Miller has a new album out that is all blues covers. He has someone else doing most of the singing, and just plays guitar. I have heard a couple of tunes off of it, and it isn't bad.

Steve Miller is a great guitarist. I caught the end of crossroads with Steve and Kenny Chesney. They were a great duo from what i saw. :bb:
