One of the old brigade , a founding father ...A great Blues man, Hubert Sumlin passed away on Sunday

I did think he looked frail at the last "Crossroads" Concert ....Lovely fella - superb player.

But who will forgt his licks and great playing .."Killing Floor" for instance ............

Sad news - RIP Hubert.

Pinetop Perkins, Gary Moore and other greats, 2011 was a bad year.

RIP. Loved his playing with the Wolf. So funky. Some of the solo albums were the real deal too.

Yet to read his biography, although did read the Howlin Wolf one.

Never did see "The Blues Guitar of Hubert Sumlin" instructional, I'd dearly like to check it.

Truly a loss, another blues man gone, RIP Hubert.

Back in about 1994 (or so) I was lucky enough to be involved with DC Minner's "Dusk 'til Dawn" Blues Festival, at which the headliners were Lucky Peterson and Hubert Sumlin. At one memorable point, I found myself on stage with Lucky, DC, and Hubert Sumlin. That was the closest I have ever come to being too intimidated on stage to play. When my turn to solo came around, I must have looked a bit panicked, because Mr. Sumlin leaned over, nudged me and said (something to the effect of...), "Heard you earlier tonight, you'll do...". Well, it worked. Thanks to the encouraging word from one of the legends, I was able to finish the set without embarrassing myself

Sad news. Indeed,
But the generation real bluesman from that time is coming to an end. Even the "second" has only a few big man left. Clapton, Buddy, etc. The only positive thing on being an is that we have seen them, see and hear them play.know there real story. Raw and real. I think it is our task to tell the youngsters who they where , and what they did for the music these day's.

I hope that Hubert is jamming in the big band above whit all the musicians who go before him

I was lucky enough to see Hubert live twice in the last few years. He will be missed.

Bb, Hubert knew a good'n when he heard one.

Sad to hear that Mr Sumlin died. I got to meet him in 2010, he headlined our local Blues Festival. I got to meet him backstage! Here's a picture!

Missed seeing this when you posted the link - yes - nice stories should be shared. Thanks for posting it.

The Stones have always been very keen to publicise and praise the blues players that influenced them. Unlike some British groups who pretty well attempted to pass off what were effectively covers as their own work.

Rather nice statement from Keith Richards in the link below - what he says echoes what members of this forum lucky enough to have had personal contact with Hubert Sumlin have said.

Bummer, but not tragic. This guy made an impact with his life that will resonant for decades, maybe centuries. So many of our favorite guitar players site this man as a major influence! Also, he was still headlining blues festivals to the end! Makes me look like a pathetic slug!! Thanks Mr. Sumlin, you were a true inspiration in every sense of the word!!! RIP!
