DDoS attack

Post by 12bar » Wed Sep 21, 2011 7:02 am

Just to let you know:
Yesterday the server hosting my pages got a massive DDoS (Distributed-Denial-of-Service) attack from outside, so that it could not be reached anymore.
My provider is still fighting against, so it maybe that it's offline again from time to time. :icon_whoknows:

AFAIK it's (like most hosting products) a shared hosting server. I don't (yet) have a dedicated server (except at work).

Some php scripts still don't work.

I think it was HBL's computers problems that caused it!!!!!! :haha:    Just kidding of course! yeah, noticed it yesterday afternoon Texas time, thought you might be doing forum maintenance or such. Hope it didn't cause any data loss to your forum files.

The main attack seems to be over, but my and other providers have blocked IP addresses, so that I'm sometimes (depending on my IP address) not able to access my site, and most probably others, too. I'll try to do what is possible. If you get a timeout here and then, don't worry, it's not you or your Windows, it's 12bar. :tears:

Right, they must have paniced. My home ip seems to be blocked, while my htc still connects, as long as i don't switch to wifi. One thing is sure though none of the systems is part of the botnet that was/is attacking the server. Oh my that would be a disgrace.....
I guess things. Will be resolved soon.

all sounds pretty ghastly to me !!

mind you I don't really understand so much about computers and zip about servers ( I am a plug and play kinda fella)
But it sounds worrying and it sounds annoying and probably very time consuming .......so good luck !!

and thank you for all you efforts

bring on the strormtroopers ! ...flush these wretched "attackers" out !!

It's not over, my host is still blocking over 2600 IP addresses. :wall:  :tease:
I asked to get off that list to be able to view my own site. :motz:
Don't know who of us is blocked. They seemed to block all IP's that called the pages more than once a minute/hour/day...

They promised to unlock all IP's when the attack is over.

Guess that's why I'm still blocked from home - I was on holiday so I had plenty of time to keep trying to get in! :wall:

Can you mail me the IP address? I know this is stupid, but currently the only way to unblock you...

I've sent an email to all members to get more information about who is still blocked. If you DON'T get an email, let me know either! A good chance to clean up the members list from those who never logged in
