Re: Mining the Sea
This is lovely! I admire the way you can play in different tunings. I have trouble keeping track just when I switch to open G (DGDGBD) for slide. You may not be playing blues, but I can certainly hear the emotion in your playing on this.

Re: Do you use Blues Licks to solo?
I started learning electric blues by wearing out vinyl and phonograph needles. I learned licks, then deconstructed them to see why they worked. I would then put them back together in various ways, work on phrasing and dynamics, and make up my own, as well. I look at that as gettion a basic vocabular...

Re: Hello from Texas
Howdy from Northern New Mexico.
Lots of great blues players from Texas. One, (an acquaintence of mine, friend of my bass player) is Carolyn Wonderland. She just landed a spot as guitar player for John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.

You do a great job, Gerd. I only wish that I could participate more. This is a great forum, I have steered a couple of people here from a facebonk guitar page I frequent, but don't know if they have checked it out.

Re: Update on the new Sheraton.
Did you modify the PU's it by yourself? Those are the stock pickups in the 2016 model. I haven't done anything to it but play it. My brother did a set up on it and changed the strings to .11's before he mailed it to me. I am liking it a lot. It even stays in tune very well. (that's important... my ...

Update on the new Sheraton.
25734017_10209487763505188_1572632394893530458_o.jpg I've been gigging with the new Sheraton for a few month now, and I have some conclusions... I like the Probucker pickups better than the '80 Gibson 490's that I had put into my '69 SG recently. They are very responsive and the coil tap feature is...

Re: Pickups replacement for BB King tone
If I were you, I would work on playing technique and amp settings before changing pickups. I have a Sheraton and really like how the stock Probuckers react with my amp. If you must change the pickups, try some Gibson 57's or Lollars.

Re: The new Sheraton!
Thank you, gentlemen.
Gerd, you are absoutly right, I do have a good band.
I may try to do some kind of vid showing the difference between the tapped and not tapped sound on this guitar. The coil tap function is more useful than I expected.

Re: Epiphonic Blind Test
And the Winner is BlindBoy     Woo Hoo! :high5: I wasn't sure, but I agree with VB that many new high end guitars have pickups that are not the same as the vintage ones. My favorite Strat pickups that I have tried are my mid 70's pickups on my Strat and the mid 60's vers...

The new Sheraton!
This is from the second time I've plugged this new guitar in. It is very different from the Strat that I am used to, but I really think I will be able to find the magic in it.

Re: Epiphonic Blind Test
:icon_whoknows: They sound very close to me. I agree with VB that the first one sounds a bit more articulate and the second one a bit thicker. My experience with Gibson and Epiphone (I have and play both) tells me that this could be a toss up. So, simply to cover the bases, I'll guess that the secon...

Nice!
I always like to see someone play with fingers, rather than a pick. Sounds good.

Re: Over Three Months
  I really like the Empty Bed Blues. I have enough trouble playing well in standard tuning that I don't even try alternates (aside from slide). This reminded me of something Mississippi John Hurt might do. I thought that the Google titled piece sounded very cool. What a fun approach to i...
