Re: Finally!!!!!
TLC complete...for now...She is strung up again and plays like a dream. The neck is now silky smooth to run up and down and the strings glide across the frets rather than judder across the rust. The lemon oil has made a big difference too not only to how it plays but also visually now the years of d...

Re: Finally!!!!!
Well i ordered a can of contact cleaner today so i can get those pots working nicely again. I've been playing her a lot today and found the neck quite slow and difficult to perform bends. So i did a bit of research and decided to polish the frets. I did this with Turtlewax "Safe Cut", the ...

Re: Okie Stomp
I really wish there was a band like you guys around here, you seem to play exactly the type of stuff i want to play. Really sounds like you enjoy what you do and i think the "under rehearsed" element of the song really makes it sound better, it's real blues.

Looks great - and sounds great too!!  Glad it was worth the wait (a couple of days is too long a wait, so a month must seem unending) - but, ouch, those customs charges! Thank VB, I wasn't sure what to expect with the P-90's as I've never owned any before. I think I was probably ...

Finally!!!!!
After waiting over a month in postage waiting time I was beginning to think my new baby was never going to get here. But all good things come to those who wait and she finally arrived today. I have been GASing for a semi for a year or so now and when this girl caught my eye on Ebay I couldn't resist...

I don't need much of an excuse to hijack a thread for the purposes of unadulterated Skynyrd promoting ;) Actually I thought that hearing Skynyrd's version with it's super funky blues riff and rocking honky tonk piano might give you a different edge to the song and another way of playing it. And I ag...

Re: Soapbar time
I love the way your pickups morph at different points, sometimes they sound like a Strat then at other times they sound like a humbucker. I hopefully have my new toy arriving tomorrow with dog ear P-90's so i'll have much more of an idea what i'm talking about then. But yes the tone you are getting ...

Re: Same Old Blues Again
Worked fine for me, just copy and paste into address bar instead. I like this song and your playing too, Lynyrd Skynyrd covered this song for their 1976 album Gimme Back My Bullets. They had a great love of the blues and covered several JJ Cale songs including famously their version of Call Me The B...

Well I heard her before I saw her and the beauty of the sound matches that of the guitar itself.
Congrats on your new found beloved....Mine should be arriving tomorrow!

Welcome to 12bar Mike... I'm sure you'll find lots of stuff to learn and expand your musical knowledge here, I know I do. Gerd (the site's main dude) has spent a long time creating some of the lessons and information on the site which we are all very grateful for. Check out the bluesroom part of the...

I agree with the crash helmet, it hurts bad enough when a string snaps and hits you in the face never mind when there's a headstock attached to the end of it!
Glad everything worked out fine.

The earthquake although bad wouldn't have done anywhere near the damage that's been caused. It's the tsunami that really made a mess, some really incredible videos on the news of the power of just water and makes me very thankful that i live in a place where things like that don't happen.

Re: Hello!
That is the perfect way to share your songs, that's the way most folks here do it. As for the playing, we have some guys here who are real mean blues players, then others like me who are very new and not so mean (I've been playing 3 years). Have a look around the bluesroom part of the forum to liste...

Re: Mellow Melodic Ions Ian
I'm right with you VB, I too need to work on major playing. I keep trying to get into a more B.B. King style of playing by mixing major into minor but it usually ends up sounding bad. I have always used 10's on my guitars, the 9's just sound too thin to me especially on the E string. From your recor...

Re: EC doing small venues
I agree with you both that arena's belong to the aptly named "Arena Rock" bands. Most bands here play the Sheffield Arena which has a capacity of 13,500 people. A friend of mine went to see Gary Moore & B.B. King there on the same night and said it was awful, the sound bounces around t...

Re: I've Got A Mind Collab?
Ok I've made some progress as far as the chord progression goes. I was making a simple mistake which totally threw me off the path of why i couldn't find the link to the second line of the song. I was playing the arpeggios of each chord twice instead of once as in the original. I did that to give me...

Re: How should I start?
I have thought about having lessons a few times and probably will do eventually, just not financially viable right now. I think having a set routine and some professional direction in what you should be learning is definitely a good idea. My advice (by no means expert) is to get the pentatonic scale...
