Re: Your favourite blues record
8ea425105edf13aeb46de3b5edf7aa84--jazz-blues-blues-music.jpg I like Freddie King's first record, "Freddie King sings" perhaps best. It's filled with classics such as Tore down, Have you ever loved a woman and I love the woman. My personal favourite is "If you believe (In what you do)...

Re: at last. my ultimate blues guitar.
I'm very curious about the sound too :) The guitar looks stunning. What did you mean by unwanted feedback, though? Is that a problem for hollow body guitars? Sorry, inexperienced. :icon_whoknows: thanks for the kind words. even though this was a shallow depth body (2 5/8" deep) there was still...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cIF6-kLrQs One of the greatest intro lines in the blues, in my humble opinion. I'm gonna get up in the morning, do like Buddy Brown I'm gonna eat my breakfast, then I'm gonna lay back down Though I don't know if it's Lightning's version that's the original, Sleepy Jo...

Re: greetings from behind the pine curtain
Welcome sir. Its great to have new members. You play guitar, I presume? Maybe you can teach me a thing or two, Mississippi JH is very advanced stuff for me. I never tried to play Skip James songs, I try and just listen to the recordings and its always a special experience.

Re: Blues band tips
Thanks admin :D We figured out it was the drummer screwing up after his solos, for some reason it's difficult to get back into a shuffle after improvising for several minutes because we get into it and usually the bpms jump up quite a lot. He's gonna work on it and I hope we can sort it out because...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zglDksAQED8 Found it... this is what annoys me with these bands, you really can't ever know if they have an ounce of creativity in them unless you investigate, and 9/10 cases you'll find some obscure record which they used and never talked about. I mean, it's an ok so...

I'm on an Albert Collins binge Iceman, yeah his style (no pick, but capo) and telecaster tone was really unique. Love this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koJT6JL_yc0 Yeah, and it's not just the feeling. He goes out of his way to imitate a lot of things and really knows how to make a show. Tha...

Blues band tips
Recently I managed to get a little band together. It's me on guitar, a bass player/singer and a drummer. It's going great so far and I think we sound pretty decent, considering this is my first band ever and I seem to be in charge of everything. We're even writing and coming up with some exciting id...

His spontaneous runs sound to me quite a bit like Buddy Guy, if Buddy Guy was more into jump blues.

Re: Theory question
Yes, it does sound like changing the key, that's what I was missing. I found an interesting video last night that suggests using corresponding arpeggios to help find the target notes, and that helped immensely. Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKe5jX-5pII

Theory question
This one is almost embarassing but i cant wrap my head around it. In a 12 bar major blues progression in lets say A, where i can start my solo in either a major or minor pentatonic, can I use BOTH the minor and major D pentatonic on the IV chord? When I get to the IV chord, can I treat it like an I ...

Re: Phrasing and timing
One thing I observed on a jam session yesterday is that my phrasing is also greatly affected by tone. I tend to phrase better when I think of the "tonal" qualities of notes than look at them as just notes, and listening the tone come out of the amp rather than just focusing on the fretboar...

Phrasing and timing
One of the things overlooked by new players is the ability to formulate and place licks in a solo. I feel like having great phrasing and timing is better than having great knowledge of the fretboard, yet there's little talk about it coming from the greats. I don't think I've heard EC talk about his ...

Well I love it even though I have an old-man's taste in that type of thing. That's why I hate to admit it
