Re: Blues Sclaes and Progressions
Your question isn't quite clear to me. Like you say you know the scales in all keys, but then you seem to say you don't... I think it's most useful to relate to chords. So focus on knowing how to play the blues progression in chords first, anywhere on the neck, using the open E7 shape, C7 or B7 shap...
Re: New Bass
actually another shortscale i have contemplated buying is the 63 danelectro. But then read online it is like the worst bass ever so i haven't bought one... Too bad, i liked it! Macca had flatwounds and played with a pick and sometimes had a foam piece in front of the bridge to get an "upright b...
Re: New Bass
Sounds good on my cheap headphones! I've been thinking of a short scale bass myself. As I had a Epi Rumblekat "Allen Woody". Didn't like the tone, as it was too fat. Tried flatwounds on it too, and still have them, almost unused (Thomastik Infeld, a very nice sounding and loose feeling set...

Re: Indian Blues
Thanks! The idea was to play it a bit differently, unorthodox, if you will. Seems like every body plays it down the line, so we went for the cross roads instead. Actually, the plan is to play this song with ukulele + melodica at some jam gig somewhere one of these days... so this was practice for th...

Re: My "ukulele guitar" Little Martin
I don't know if it sounds any good, but I like it. Will most likley eventually get mediums on it again, and tune to standard, but we'll see. Here's another little ditty I recorded: http://www.box.net/shared/2oplru4b7u (this time I added some volume boost a bit, to make it sound a bit better, also no...

Indian Blues
I think this old Hank&Bruce song would be a nice vehicle for blues soloing, but haven't heard anybody improvise on it. Never learned it 100%, and don't really want to either. Wish I was a better player to pull off my vision about it. http://www.box.net/shared/athmx8eqzm We didn't really have tim...

My "ukulele guitar" Little Martin
I play some ukulele, besides guitar. Only have one acoustic guitar, the travel acoustic Martin LXME. The strings on it needed changing. Up on another board some beginner was asking if a Little Martin could take lighter strings, like 10s, as the factory mediums are too heavy. Well I replied that sure...

Re: Modes for even the hard of learning
As you are way better than I am on the guitar, I had to watch those. Well only watched the first 2 so far, my connection is slow... :P Anyway, I always related to the table 2/3 down the wikipedia site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_mode It explains what the notes are in the modes. And like I'...

Re: What kind of gear do you have and are you happy with it?
Epi Dot. Squier Tele. Epi Alliekat. I like'em currently in this order. Of course looking to change pickups and all that, but don't really need to. Need to practice more! Kustom Contender. Great tube tone for the desk for 100€. It's about the smallest good 8" speaker amp I've found (ok, there is...

Re: Lap Steel
I'd love to learn lap steel, but assume it'd be very difficult to learn, I bet I'd be out of tune all the time. My leanings were in hawaiian or country as well as blues.

Re: Semi-Acoustics & the input jack
Good info in that vid. Thanks! My Alleykat has the input jack at the end of body, Les Paul style. But my Epi dot has that traditional style on top (and I dig having it on top, easier when sitting down), but hasn't gone loose yet... if it would, I guess I'd super glue it... the input jack on my tele ...

Re: Peter Green On Wikipedia Incorrect??
NOt related, but read in a Green intereview (GP ?/2000) just the other day that when Gary Moore asked if Green wanted the Les Paul back, Green said he is willing to pay what he originally paid for it minus 20%, which he said is 100-20=$80, as he just didn't want it anymore, and never saw any magic t...

Re: Greatest guitar solo....ever
For a blues solo with some flash, this is a contender for me:

(Jeff Beck)
Of course there are others that stop me in my tracks, like some Django Reinhardt solos. and BB King solos.

How about some "milking a cliché" collabs?
I was thinking it might be fun to do collaborations (or just separate tracks, even on different backing tracks) on milking some blues cliches. It could be run so that we give points to people who posted their version and the eventual "winner" then posts a new cliche to milk? I mean clichés...

Re: A tribute to BBKing collaboration Jam ?
I actually went out an bought a 2nd hand Epiphone Dot today, and love it so far and why wouldn't I! Need to check how it sounds played loud in a band practice on Tue. But anyway, a few days away from my birthday, got me a best of presents for sure!

Re: A tribute to BBKing collaboration Jam ?
The bass line for the turnaround is similar to the one in "Caldonia" (which I think is in G), which I've played before. So the BT here I think is like this for bars 9-10: D:---------------------------- A:---4-5-6--7-5-4------------- E:-7---------------7--(5)------- and this appears to be t...

Re: A tribute to BBKing collaboration Jam ?
Sounds a bit like Every day I have the blues to me. See for ex http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ1edU1dAG8
To my ears, the progression is something like a "quick change 12 bar blues":
