Re: I would like to introduce you to Co-Co

No problem... no hurt feelings. I still like Co-Co. Besides, I was thinking of the chocolate when I cam up with the name, not of the Haute couture icon.

Re: Notes on Major/Minor chord progressions

In the last two years I have finally got somewhere on lead work by understanding how to listen, and to listen by instinct. And to translate what I hear in my head to what my fingers play on the guitar - not by any conscious effort but by mental / physical memory. I have really no "licks" ...

Re: I would like to introduce you to Co-Co

"Coco" is an affectionate nickname given to a male pet, female is cocotte. Not sure if it is the tune JimRR refers to but here's a link to the song of the movie Coco Chanel. (Lyrics: Baumaine and Blondelet, Music: Deransart) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3R3CknU7zc A MALE PET :tears: yo...

Re: I would like to introduce you to Co-Co

Golfxzq, ... the nickname "Coco" came from a French popular (or folk) song she sang when she was a young singer. It's a catchy tune. Maybe that should be the song for your Co-Co. JimRR... That would be cool... I tried to locate the song on-line but had no luck. I guess I'll just have to r...

Re: Why does my guitar go sharp?

Changing humidity has a much bigger effect on the wood than changing temperature alone, and the air temperature also effects directly the humidity... 2bar and weelie are right; the wood in the neck and the top will be affected by temp and humidity far more than the strings themselves. Being...

Re: Why does my guitar go sharp?

That procedure will tell only half of what I want to know, sorry. If you are going to practice anyway, let her on the stand, untouched for a hour or 2. Then check the tuning and retune ! ( I hope 2 hours will be enough to get her in a ~stable state). Then check again next day. Good point HBL... I r...

I would like to introduce you to Co-Co

I would like to introduce you to Co-Co I first met Co-Co on February 2, 2010. She was hanging amongst many, many, other beautiful guitars very high up in a corner where no one noticed her beauty. She caught my eye immediately and it was love at first sight. The next day, after consulting with my wi...

Re: Why does my guitar go sharp?

I would be setting live traps for the gremlins. Catch and Release is the only humane way to deal with them.   That's the only reasonable explanation.... all else has been scientifically proven to be of no consequence! Mind, I think it is the case that the better you get as a gu...

Re: Why does my guitar go sharp?

Please remind me so I don't have to search, what brand / type of guitar do you have ? HBL... Co-Co is an Ibanez AF95 hollow body. Cruisemates, VB, BBP... The temperature thing seemed the most logical to me too but, being an engineer, I did a little analysis. The strings and truss rod are steel and ...

Why does my guitar go sharp?

I've noticed that whenever I leave my guitar overnight and check the tuning the next day all the strings are usually a little on the sharp side. Recently, due to a medical mishap with my wife, I have not had a chance to touch it for about a week. When I checked the tuning, sure enough, all the strin...

Re: A Very Minor Affair - first post to the Blues Room

Golfxzq - my granddaughter is learning guitar as well but for her it's just an academic exercise. She has no real love for it. She puts her efforts into singing and she's very good at that. Cool... maybe a colab with your grandaughter singing and my grandson playing? He is supposed to perfor...

Re: A Very Minor Affair - first post to the Blues Room

Your comment " we may be able to go home tomorrow. I can't wait to get back to "Co-Co" You might want to rephrase that .............for your wife !! ie., "Just can't wait to get my wife home again" ....................... rather than expressing unbridled love and longing fo...

Re: A Very Minor Affair - first post to the Blues Room

Golfxzq, I'm really sorry to hear about your wife's accident. I hope her recovery goes smoothly. As you suggest, you can serenade her and get in lots of good practice time. Did you say you were at the Masters? Yep... the first day practice round, that's all I could afford... or get tickets to, but ...

Re: Actually playing is hard!

Thanks Cruisemates.... looks like some really good practice tips. I can't wait to get home to give them a try. I am having playing withdrawals... out for a week on a little mini-vacation and at the hospital this week with my wife (broken hip - surgery went well and she is recovering - we may be able...

DANG.... JimRR, I am SO jealous!!! That was great. You have really learned your lessons well. I'm not qualified to do much critique, it just sounded so good to me. Congratulations on your first upload. Now I think I am more than just a few months behind you, maybe a few YEARS!! I have lost about a w...

"Cheer up, things could be worse. So I cheered up. Sure enough.... things got worse"

Re: 25 Years Ago Today

CONGRATULATIONS VB... Great picture. Not many couples last even five these days so it seems that you two made the right decisions back 25 years ago. I've got a few years ( :oldie: ) on you but 25 is a natural milestone!!! Sounds like the boiler is working just fine in your marriage!

Re: Actually playing is hard!

JimRR... I have been having the same struggles, as you know. Great post, I am sure we will get some great suggestions. Viking... speaking of hammer-ons and pull-offs... I am OK with the hammer-ons, although a little weak but my pull-offs are almost non existent!!! What is the trick to this? They are...
