Re: Learnin the thrill is gone

I think the original poster is on the right track by learning the chord structure and the arrangement and improvising the solo. I agree with the other folks on here when they say it's a good thhing to try and learn the solo note for note but only as a means of learning the licks and most importantly...

This forum is indeed the best blues guitar forum on the web and all the members have something helpful to contribute. There is a great wealth of knowledge here about this wonderful m...

Re: Partscaster Stratocaster Project

That is beautiful. I love that tinted neck and of course the finish is one of a kind. Very impressive. I bet it sounds lovely too. It inspires me to try and build one myself. Not from scratch like yours but maybe a frankenstrat like Eric Clapton's old "Blackie".

Re: Query - Stratocaster - anyone tried to ....?

When I had a strat I had the tone control wired for the bridge pickup and I liked it. As for the heavier string gauge and tuning down thing I never did that. I like to use plain old Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's (.010-.046) on electric guitars.

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen - The Rolling Stones.

I have seen this movie more times than I can count. I saw it when it first showed at the movie theatres at midnight in the 1970's. I even had a fuzzy bootleg copy of it on VHS in the 1980's. For me it's probably one of the best rock concert movies (besides The Last Waltz) that was ever made. It show...

That looks really nice! After seeing your post I checked it out on the Marshall website. I'd love to try one out. I bet it sounds killer with that Les Paul. :D

Re: Main stage at Ottawa Bluesfest collapsed

I live not far from were the fesitival is held. I think one person was badly hurt and the rest had minor injuries. The wind gusts were incredible but just only for a few minutes. It rained hard for about 45 minutes. I think all the spectators left in quite an orderly fashion and thank goodness there...

I loved it! The sound on the video was good too. Gotta love that old vinatge gear sold by Sears. I have used old Silvertone and Harmony amps too. Heck when I was a kid in the 1970's all you could find were old Harmony tube amps...

Re: Confused about S/P DIF

Whew!! I am with Strummer.... Plug in and play. If it doesn't have tubes glowing in the back and make Armageddon noises when you bump it, I don't get it. It took me months to sort out my Guitarport, and I still probably use only about 10% of its capacity. I must say, you are getting nice so...

Re: Mr J Takes it Easy

That sounds really nice. You really have a nice tone and the recording is excellent. Nice swinging backing track too. I was jamming along with the track and I believe that the V chord is F#7 and not F7. If you would ike some good tips on jazz guitar playing check this site out: http://www.jazzguitar...

Re: New recording - opinions pls

I just listened to "Worried Life Blues". Good tune and you do a good job on it. I really liked the slapback echo effect you used on the drums too. It gives it a pretty authentic 1950's Chicago sound.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Funky Blues In G

Hi folks; Indeed it is a Jay Turser guitar but I have no idea what model. I also have a JT Les Paul Studio copy as well. I got this ES-335 copy used for $75 but it needed new tuners and the the body at the input jack had been damaged making the jack loose. I had a set of new tuners sitting here for ...

Re: Somebody Loan Me A Dime - Fenton Robinson

You MUST obtain a copy of "I hear Some Blues Downstairs" on the Alligator label. I had that record on vinyl as a teeanger in the 1970's. I first heard about about Fenton Robinson in the mid 70's on a local blues radio show that was (and is still) on every Sunday night on one of our non-com...

Funky Blues In G

I picked up this cheap ES-335 copy a couple of weeks ago and after doing a few minor repairs on it I recorded this little ditty while testing out the guitar.
