Re: ... and a Mandolin!

Nice looking instrument. Just happened to be listening to a killer version of Arabia by a Jerry Garcia / David Grisman collaboration with Grisman ripping it up on mandolin as I read your post. Can we look forward to hearing some uploads from you in the future?

Re: How can I .....?

Thanks gentlemen, Those headphones look pretty slick (and I need a new pair since the padding on my current phones are disintegrating, leaving sticky black rings around my ears  ). While digging around the net I found this device: http://www.roland.com/products/en/JS-5/ , which looks almost p...

Re: How can I .....?

I'll probably want to run this through a PC eventually to record a song or two but, for now, I'd prefer to have it set up as a stand alone system (i.e., computer not being necessary). That said, I'm not opposed to running everything through a laptop if I can set it up easily (I'm not sure where an a...

How can I .....?

Greetings, I need some help here. I'm looking for a way to mix my guitar output with a backing track into headphones. This is for after the family goes to sleep so I need to keep it quiet. What I've been doing is running my guitar through a Digitech RP-250 and listening through the headphone jack. T...

Sweet! I was bummed when the track ended too quickly.

I'd be interested to hear about the hardware you used for this recording (guitar, PUs, amp, etc.).

Re: JazzSwingBlues II

Sounds pretty good to me Michael. There's a few minor rough patches but overall it's very listenable. More importantly, I'm hearing a lot of nice licks in there. As your playing improves, the rough patches will be replaced with more nice licks, which I suppose is how every guitar player progresses (...

Sounds great Blindboy, has a Johnny Winter vibe to my ear while still maintaining a uniqueness.

Re: RIP Alvin Lee

That's sad news indeed. He's one of my favorites and, in my opinion, never received the recognition he deserved. I'll play Cricklewood Green and Sssssh tonight in his honor. :tears:

Re: Nobody's Fault but Mine - playing and singing

I much prefer number 1 as I feel its way more Lyrical and Authentic and a much more tonalaly pleasing , musical voice. Its more "You " and I think longer term it has more potential for you and singing That's pretty much the same as I was thinking when I listened. I think the voice in vide...

Re: Jackal's Prefer Blondes

I thought about carrying on and going through that layer to bare wood, but the maple veneer on these guitars is so thin I didn't want to risk not getting it even or even worse going through it. Plus I love the colour it is now so much I don't think I want to change it again. Peter Green is quickly ...

Re: Jackal's Prefer Blondes

Curiosity + Boredom = Uh Oh Mike's at it again messing around with his guitars. I love it! I couldn't believe my luck when I started sanding and this gorgeous colour started coming through, I was thinking that I would end up with bare wood and eventually stain it a nice honey colour but now I don't...

Re: This guy is outta hand!!!!

Wow, this Pinecone guy has it all going on; great blues name and stage presence, cigar box mystique, killer playing, and tons of soul. Thanks for posting the link. I definitely prefer his playing over the winner but I never went for the mainstream stuff. You're playing some fine slide yourself on yo...

Re: Memphis Minnie's "In My Girlish Day's" w/Aly on vox

This is a collab that I did with a singer/guitarist on another forum named Aly Dig it I definitely dig it too. Nice arrangement and the vocals are spot on. If you're not aware of it, KJAZ from Long Beach (CSULB) has a blues program every Saturday afternoon (maybe Sundays too). They're asking for de...

Re: What's in the Box?

I've read this discussion with great interest. Unfortunatley I'm left thinking :wall: But I guess I should at least do a little homework first to help catch up: Modes are interesting, but other ways also work to describe these things. I've written it down some time ago, it's part of the tutorial: ht...

Re: hello hello

Welcome Lee, If you started in your 20s you're way ahead of me. Speed is nice but I'm more concerned with figuring out when and where to play the right notes. Someday I expect that will just click. In the mean time, there are a lot of players to learn from on this forum who are already there.

Introduction

Hi all, I've been enjoying this forum for a few months so I guess it's time to introduce myself. I’ve been playing guitar for a few years (mostly strumming on an acoustic) and have more recently been trying to learn some blues. I have a lot of work ahead of me but I'm getting there slooowwwwly. My e...
