Re: Now That Summer Has Gone

Thanks guys, your comments are much appreciated. I agree that the bass sound will not dramatically improve with a better instrument unless I get a very good bass and an amp - and that's not going to happen! What should improve though is how easy (or not) it is for me to record a usable bass part. Th...

Now That Summer Has Gone

A new song just finished, this is the first one with my new gear (condenser mic and usb interface). I think it has made a big difference to my recording quality, as I hoped it would. The problem is, the better the recording quality, the more it highlights your mistakes, poor technique and imperfecti...

Re: Hip Hop Blues

I still like the BT, but it's even better with some sweet lead licks over it!

Re: Hip Hop Blues

Funky!!

This is really cool, great rhythm guitar, very tight, the timing and groove is absolutely spot on. Great tone too.

Rhythm playing is easily overlooked but it's a vital part of guitar playing, as this piece demonstrates. Excellent.

Re: Gear used for hotel blues

The most important part of the setup is missing from that photo - it's the player!

Good job, and interesting you can do something this good with a couple of things you could pack into a suitcase.

Re: La Senorita del Diablo

Thanks guys, getting such positive feedback is much appreciated, particularly from knowledgeable musicians such as yourselves! Tytlblues, yes, I did the rhythm track myself. If anyone is interested I can post the rhythm track only as a BT? Strummer, I've ordered a new condenser mike (I think ...

Re: So Slow Will it Flow Blues

That sounds excellent, your playing has come on really well. Especially the start, tasteful note choice and timing, and those long sustained notes with a touch of vibrato really hit the spot!

La Senorita del Diablo

New song, with a Latin feel. Very simple, upbeat, but catchy. I think my singing is improving, slowly, although this has a very tongue-in-cheek vocal delivery (and it's not easy to sing with your tongue in your cheek!) I switched from the Strat to the Fernandes for this one, for a more Sanatana-esqu...

This is really fantastic. I can only echo what has already been said, excellent quality recording and great performances from both of you

Re: Minor Thoughts (and a query)

Hi VB! Sounds good! I'm not the right person to talk too much about theory, but as the B Aeolian contains all the B minor 7th notes, what you're doing is essentially playing the B Aeolian, but sometimes choosing to focus exclusively on the minor 7th notes? That sounds similar (but different) to my u...

Re: New Amp

Congrats on the new gear!

I love the sound of a good valve amp, but they are not very practical for home use, so a solid-state amp that sounds good for what you want it to do, at reasonable volumes, is a great find!

Re: Best value Les Paul copy?

Hi Bluesmole,

I'll certainly keep an eye out for a second-hand Hohner, but I don't think I've ever seen one up for sale in Ireland.

Thanks for the link VB, I'll have a look through those now

Re: Best value Les Paul copy?

I'm not ABSOLUTELY tied to the idea of a Les Paul type guitar, but I'm pretty set on wanting something with a sweet humbucker tone as an alternative to my strat. I think the Epi LPs are good guitars, and for this price range they are what I would compare other guitars to, but that doesn't mean there...

Re: 'Coming Storm'

Beautiful!

I love the sound of two guitars playing lead together, but it can be difficult to pull off. You succeeded, and the two are so different as well. Very ambitious, but beautifully done. Great tones all round too!

Best value Les Paul copy?

I don't know about you, but when I get a free moment at work I usually look at guitars and think about my next purchase - however far away that may be! I have a MIM Strat and a Fernandes Revolver superstrat as my main electric guitars, and I'm thinking of selling the Fernandes to buy a Les Paul. I w...

Re: Creating Drum Parts For Songs

I really only have experience of Fruity Loops, and I only use it for drums. It's ok, it's easy enough to get a good beat going but it can be difficult to do anything more complex. I'm not a drummer, and my knowledge of rhythm is limited, but I find it usually does the job. Beats can be exported as w...

Re: I need a kick in the ass

DO something completely different. If you usually practice scales and/or noodle, then learn a solo note-for-note. If you're used to learning solos, try some slide, or some fingerpicking. It sounds like you're putting pressure on yourself, so try to do something that you haven't done before, so your ...

Re: Blues Room on air?

This is a really great idea, simpler than the HoF. I don't always have time to go through numerous threads with new songs or collabs, but if they are collected like this I can just hit play and listen while I'm doing other things. Simple, but brilliant!

Re: The Man Behind the Mask

Thanks Choucas09 and Tytlblues, just a reminder  I posted a later version here http://12bar.de/community/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1290 in which the whole song, particularly the second solo, was kicked up a notch. I don't think either version really nails the song, but both come close and bot...
