Re: Clapton's 1 1/2 bends

I will admit I think my 9's sound a little thin on the Les Paul, but not so much that I can't stand it, but on the Strat it s a huge difference. I have a standard American HSS Start (Humbucker in the bridge position) and it still sounds way too thin for me. I have gone to 10s before on the LP, but w...

Re: Clapton's 1 1/2 bends

As far as 1 1/2-fret bends, it certainly is something you can do, and I am sure he did it. I do it. My favorite place is on the root (1) note of the scale, to bend it up a minor third, say going from E to G (in the key of E-blues scale). Another fun place to do it is on the third (G in the E-blues c...

Re: Clapton's 1 1/2 bends

I think it is pretty much accepted that heavier strings give you more sustain - when playing a fretted note. Almost every article I read featuring a well known Strat player says they use 10s. I could argue that when bending notes I could get more sustain out of lighter strings just because they are ...

Re: Jam with Itunes?

I am not sure exactly what you are looking for - but if you have something like a rockman when you can plug in any kind of player (iPod, etc) you should be able to use one of those just using audio out on your computer into the rockman, and plug in your guitar and play along. Or could do what I do -...

Les Paul Humbuckers - covers on or off?

I am a tone-freak, and I love the Les Paul - Marshall distorted tone used in classic rock like Bad Company, etc.

How do you get the best tone out of your Les paul - Pickups covers on or off? How high are your action and your pickups set?

Re: New Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe

Pretty guitar. I have never heard of the a studio deluxe. I have a Les Paul Special which I love. The thing about it is that sells used for about $500 (used) but it has the same hardware as a standard. The only thing is it's basically a stripped down Les Paul - no arch top or binding. Mine is just l...

Re: Call and response

How about this for a way to find new licks and practice new phrasing, space, ear training and call and response all at the same time. Try playing the vocal melodies of songs on your guitar. I think this opens up a lot of ideas you don't here by just playing the blues scale all the time. Melody notes...

Re: OnLine Jamming !!

Like most things audio & computer related I got obsessed with this and finally got it working last night. Fender eJamming. The trick is that you really need some kind of a mini-mixer that also works like a sound card. I am using a digidesign M-box. Most of these USB mixers have a mic input, a se...

I hear it based on A-minor with these notes being used a lot: 1 ---------7---8--10--12-10--8--10--8^7----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 --10-----------------------------------------10----8--10--8--------------------------------------------------- 1 ------------...

here is a link to the song - is there a certain section of the solo (min:sec) that you want to know, because I can't do it all but I can do part of it. probably.

Re: Clapton 'repetetive licks'

The thing they keep saying about changing it from minor to major is important. By using the major-6 (the F#) they are in the A-major scale racther than in the blues scale. The best example of Clapton doing this note is in Crossroads at the end of the first solo (the second time through the "cho...

I dont remember what the solo sounded like - but what a cool song. It is in 5/4 meter. Some of the Blind Faith songs were the best.

Re: Major Scale: get confortably

To test out your major pentatonic playing try "Honky Tonk Woman" by the Rolling Stones. It is in the key of G-major, but you basically play what looks to be the e-pentatonic blues scale (G A B D E G A B D E). Bend the same notes (bend the A up to a B and bend the D up to an E) and you woul...

Re: OnLine Jamming !!

I signed up for this - it was a real hassle to get it working, in fact I had to give up on my win7 computer. I did get it running fairly easy on an XP computer I have. You might need to download some soundcard ASIO drivers called ASIO4U (or something) but once you do they install themselves. So I lo...

Re: PC recording

Personally, I recomend getting a stereo mini-plug - it looks exactly the the plug you put intp an iPod. At the other end use the plugs that conform to the OUTPUT of whatever device you record on. Plug that into the "microphone" input on your computer. For recording that signal, there is a ...

Re: TAB or Score???

I think you're talking about F# 7 b11 (not F #7 b11), "F sharp minor eleventh" which has the notes F# - A - C# - E - G# - B, no A# is present. I don't see why you say the chord above is actually a F#7b11, not F#7+9. 12-Bar - actually I agree with you. if I saw the chord symbol F#7+9 I wou...

Re: TAB or Score???

Just to be clear - YES - this is the famous Hendrix chord from Purple Haze, Fixy Lady and other songs. But the scoring IS WRONG. If the chord is based on F# (which it is) and it is a 7-chord (meaning it has an e-natural in it) that makes the chord: F# A# C# E (a typical F#7 chord) but then the natur...

Re: What's an Arpeggio?

Its amazing to listen to the lyrics of Womderful Tonight. I just finished reading Patty Boyd's book about her life, you prolly know she was married to George Harrison until Clapton wooed her away from her, but he was pretty tragically alcoholiv the whole time they were together. She talks about the ...
