Re: A tribute to BBKing collaboration Jam ?

Sounds great to me! Don't know if I have the time to record, but still, I am all for it! I think my Epi Alleykat + Kustom Contender can approach a BBesque tone, though my playing might not... I do have a BB KIng in Africa DVD, though, just borrowed it, and will probably watch tomorrow... maybe it'll...

Re: What's in the Box?

For blues music, forget the ionian (major scale), and use mixolydian instead. That's the "seventh chord" version of major scale. So G mixolydian is: GABCDEF. Of course you can think in Dorian too, it's same scale but minor: G A A# B C D E F. Then also the b5 and b3 also belong to blues. Of...

Re: Roadworn...

the old guitars had nitro finish (pre-70s). It gets worn quite easily. The satin finished Highway One models have that kinda thin nitro finish. So I'd look for a used one of those, for example.

Of course there are some cheaper worn finished guitars too. Like "Vintage" brand, in the UK.

Re: Albert Collins

Just to note to people thinking of buying Collins videos, the Montreux DVD includes also late seventies footage, like 40 min of it. Supposedly the best live footage of him, but although I have seen it, I wouldn't know cause I never liked his style.

Re: A New VB Addition

On youtube didn't find much of note for Phillip Walker, but the last album and the "I've got a sweet tooth" album I really dig. Actually have a live album of his (live in Paris, or something) somewhere, that I personally bought from him in SF two years ago... should dig it out and have a l...

Re: A New VB Addition

Viking, Actually, to me your new guitar didn't sound markedly different from the Viking. But could be that I was only listening to you, not the tone. But on my MP3 player the original Johnny Be Goode jumped out right after I had listened to your track above, and the Johnny B Goode intro had a simila...

Re: What's the smallest amp you're comfortable gigging with?

actually just remembered that a band member has a trademark 30 that just could not keep up with the band. So he brought his 5w 1x12 laney... which was just the right size. This was in a garage for practice, we do not gig. So personally i would go for 12 inch and nonmodeling. Tube watts are bigger, b...

Re: What's the smallest amp you're comfortable gigging with?

Badbluesplayer, I do agree on you saying the amps are too small! The list a just copied from the other page (from my own post there). The list of course was for gigging with a miked amp as small as possible. The thread starter said he gigs with the Kustom Contender. Which is really small and VERY li...

Re: A New VB Addition

Oh my! I was intriqued by the Epiphone John Lennon inspired model, until I read that they make the tops on the a whole lot thicker than on Gibson, so I passed. That Vintage I never seen. I hate searching for "Vintage guitars" on google, you know. :D ` Top three questions I have now: So how...

Re: What's the smallest amp you're comfortable gigging with?

Kustom Contender. very small and only 5.5kg!

I only just ordered one, but I know some guys have gigged with one. Though could be that they mic the amp. But I hear the master-by-pass makes this LOUD for it's small size.

If you live in EUrope, Thomann has stone deal: under 100EUR!!!

Re: Fender G-dec 3 thirty

I assume the tones are like in Mustangs, which sound great to me! But the G-Dec has learning curve, first tones out of it are so prosessed that I feel nauseous, and it sports a LCD screen and rubber buttons like my first mobile phone.... so I skipped. Having backing tracks available in an amp is goo...

PLease do, Viking, I'd like a listen as I haven't been following this thread now. Too scared to take the end slot, though, that's maybe the most critical spot!

Re: I be minor, I play the blues

The track was the neck mini humbucker, Line6 compressor pedal, Microcube on the Fender Blackface setting (and reverb). Played with fingers. With a 9 month baby in the house (read: flat), I am always in a hurry with playing, usually only have a few min, so didn't waste time trying find a pick. :D I h...

Re: I be minor, I play the blues

Thanks, Viking! Not as good as your tracks, for sure. Alleykat is the hum/mini one, no P90s. That short track was put together in about 10 minutes. main solo was two tracks, and the low notes another two tracks. Actually played it all into my loop pedal, not to a tracker. Actually, in the store the ...

I be minor, I play the blues

This is for a local forum, that has weekly "roots solo competition", the winner always posts the next backing track. I play in the lower division, as they now have one for us lesser blues gods. :D Anyway, it's my first time entering. I don't like competing in music, but actually like the i...

Re: Blocking the Trem?

Blocking is fine, just throw a block of wood there, and the steel block keeps it in place. Of course on your MIM, the block is like less than half of the width that should it be. But I never did understand the real benefit of blocking with a block of wood. Just tighter the 2 anchor screws, use 5 spr...

Re: Les paul question

I guess high action would mean louder acoustic sound (you can bang the strings harder), and possibly better sustain? I like strings low as well, electric guitars are not meant to be played acoustically.

Re: Les paul question

I'd say the higher the radius, the lower you can have the action. So Les Pauls on average should be able to have lower action than strats. If neck is straight, then lower the bridge by the two screws. Also the nut might be too high, I think that is checked for by pressing the string on second fret a...

Re: Clapton - Playing Gibson's again !!

VB: I guess that's from From the cradle era, he played a lot of ES-335 around that time, no? It's kinda funny to realize that based on these new Jools clips, it seems like he sees himself an elderly blues singer, the guitar player seems secondary. The second clip sounds a lot better, if not very ins...
