Had an awesome jam last night!

Hi all! Last night I had my usual guitar jam with my guitar teacher on the sidewalk as usual. Here is what we played: Midnight Rider (Allman Bros.) Slow Blues in E (long jam) Don't Worry Be Happy (Bobby Ferrin) Friends in Low Places (Garth Brooks) Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd) Dream Baby (Roy Orbins...

Had a fantastic weekly jam tonight!

Hi all! So today was one of the usual weekly jams at the five way stop in Alpine, and the new sidewalk has been installed, so hurray! But, somebody planted some cactus near where we were playing (boo!), so I had to be cautious. I always wondered if the greats had experience playing near hazardous wi...

Branching out (Scales!)

Hi all! I have recently started playing more varieties of scales (Lydian, Aeolian, Phyrigian, etc.), to widely develop my playing, and already, I have found that within a minute of picking up a new scale, it has already improved my playing tons. It is amazing to me, that how I thought that my playin...

Re: Beautiful Day

I have done the revised version, (I simply turned down the amp, and voila, you can hear the BT better now.) and will upload it as soon as I am able.

Re: Beautiful Day

Sorry 'bout that! I have been having the most terrible luck with my recording lately getting the mix just right. I think I will turn down the amp, and record again. I will have a busy weekend, so I am not sure when I will get a chance to do it..

Beautiful Day

Hi all! My apologies for not having been on recently! I've passed a couple of colleges classes and am working on getting as many as I can out of the way this term, so I can hopefully graduate sooner rather than later. Anyways, I found a nice free backing track on the web called "Allman Bros. st...

Re: Had a fun end of the month jam

Sadly, my parents did not show up until the very end. So no audio, sorry! Next time!I have to add, that we run our amps and pedal words through a battery in my guitar teacher's trailer. The battery got low on water, and I recall on Jessica, all of a sudden after my solo, and just as Jonathan was tak...

Had a fun end of the month jam

Hi all! Last month's end of the month jam happened last Friday at our local Albertsons parking lot, and we had a blast. We had my friend Jonathan join us for the jam, and so we played with the help of a couple of beginner guitar and piano kids: Ode to Joy Crazy on You by Heart La Bamba (I had a fun ...

Re: Nashville Blues

Sorry ya'll. I guess I forgot to adjust the mix. I will do it when I come home from Nashville. MR, I am not sure, but I will resubmit it with the improved mix.

Nashville Blues

Hi all! This is a backing track I found called "Memphis Blues in Bm", and it was a very interesting backing track to play over as it starts out slow then the tempo changes midway through the song, forcing me to listen to the BT and play off of what it was doing. I am always experimenting t...

Rockin in D

Hi all! As an exercise in phrasing I ddecided to play over this 80's rock ballad in D minor backing track. Previosly, I would have tended to cram as many notes as I could to sound like I was a "rock star", but in this, I could tell that I would have to change my thinking. I think I am pret...

Re: A new level of learning

I think that I have a general idea of how to improve it. I think that I should leave out the fller notes and give more of a breath , like a sax player would between note phrases and have nice short and smooth phrases. I think part of the trouble is that I am a bit hyperactive in playing and rush int...

A new level of learning

So I have decided to expand my soloing vocab and pacing by figuring out the key of popular songs by ear then soloing in the key with an appropriate scale. I figure it will be good ear training, and with the different progressions, I will learn a variety of different phrases for my vocabulary. I am h...

Re: A Different Blues in G Collab

I'll take the third slot.

EDIT:

I did my part already. Hope it sounds good. I listened to the BT carefully to get the groove and attempted to apply it to my playing. I thought it was a nice challenge. Here it is:

Re: Single Coil Pickups

I am not a technical expert on single coils, but I am more of a single coil fan than I used to be. When I started playing about 6 years ago, my first electric was a 2004 Fender Toronado with a pair of Seymour Duncans in it, hum buckers, and I thought it was the coolest sound in the world. When I got...

Re: Golden B.B Blues

Hi MR!

I gave it another go, this time thinking of what I was playing in relationship to the background rhythm. Is this an improvement?

Re: Golden B.B Blues

thanks MR! I think I get what you are saying and why it is so tricky. Obviously, I am not getting it, but all this means is something's work on. If I try and mesh it with the rhythm hi,st listening to it, I think I have the key. Thank you for your criticism, it is helping me growth be be a better mu...

Re: Golden B.B Blues

BB, I have learned what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, and this is making me a lot better of a musician. I treasure advice from musicians like you, like gold from El Dorado. I have been trying to upload my revised version, but for some reason, the internet connection here is conspiring agains...
