Re: Texas Dreaming Blues

Well, yes ... it's clearly technically very very good ... but for me rather 'edgy'. Sometimes it's difficult to express the right words to convey what I personally think of one blues compared to another. Possibly my general dislike of what BTs often seem to lead to is at the bottom of it because I d...

Re: Roland GR20

Ah ... that explains it! Actually, although I've got three keyboards now that have a 'sax' button on them, none of them sound anything remotely like a sax compared to what you've got here. In the mix this gadget sounds pretty convincing to me ... its the breathy sound of a sax that seems to go AWOL ...

Re: Do We Need a Sax

Hey, that's pretty good amigo. This and earlier posts of yours had already got me drooling over getting something with them there tube thingies in ... but what's with the 'sax and keys' ... where did they spring from ... you been spending all the housekeeping dosh again!?!

Re: A Prayer for Them

Very sensitively done. My feeling is that your playing has advanced quite a few notches over the past months, double stops are really nice. Hope this amp business turns out well for you now ... bit of a rough ride you've had getting to this sound. Really impressive tone with this one.

Re: JazzSwingBlues II

That's good. The only difference between what you do and what some of 'the others' do is, I think, to do with timing variation. This piece runs to 3 minutes 50 secs. Each verse occupies about 24 seconds so there are around 10 verses. Keep around two thirds of the verses exactly as the are. Evenly sp...

Re: Blinded retakes

Very nice. This kind of playing conjures up loads of imagery in my head ... sunny day, cornfield, soft breeze, young couple taking a stroll, that sort of thing. Tones here I really like, also the pacing ... makes me want to clean up my own 'smash bang' approach to the blues a bit! Nice work.

Re: Only One Left - HBL did

That's some really great playing, love the long sustains and general production. Good to have you back doing what you do better than most! Regarding 'bands' (and whether they can work together or not) depends on several factors beyond just general musical competence. A band is a grouping of individu...

Re: Chimera makeover

Thanks guys ... Wow - that guitar really has a story. Broken, cut-off, nearly all parts replaced several times, colored, colored again - it's a true monster guitar! I'm still wondering how the guitar stand look like - you can' lean it on a wall... Nope ... doesn't lean up against anything...

Re: Chimera makeover

Hi BB, its a thru' neck job ... i.e. back of neck eventually arrives behind where the strings are anchored whereas the fretboard stops off at fret 24. As a result there's no step (or means of detaching) where the playable bit of neck slopes into the body, which itself is then just bonded to each sid...

Re: What do y'all think of this...?

Good one this ... really like the slide. Figured open G too but couldn't find a C harp to busk along. Curious as to how you got tuned to open G ... open E with capo on third fret or some other inversion? Lovely band sound on this and same also with the previous two ... hardly seem to get time to be ...

Re: Blues for Days

Yes, like it! Great vocals, bass, rhythm and percussion contribute strongly to the live club atmosphere (identified by 12bar) that the piece conveys. In the case of the competing leads I personally would've settled just for the strongest of the two on its own (keeping those very nice riffs in there)...

Chimera makeover

Just finishing off a tidy up of my 45 year old Chimera home made relic. Completely dismantled it, cleaned up everything that came off before replacing, resprayed the body and headstock (which I altered a bit for more of a tele shape) to arrive at what I suppose is a sort-of silvery-blue. The new hea...

Song for Silvia

Not exactly a blues but the best I can do in what's turning out to be a season of sadness for several of us here. Silvia died at dawn on Wednesday morning in a hospital in the UK aged 89. She was my wife Jane's mother. We'd arrived there from Spain around midnight so fortunately Jane was able to say...

Re: Feeling Gospel Today

Funny how different musical pieces can conjure up different but equally vivid images. Three bars into this (same with HBL earlier version) ... and I've got Sister Rosetta and an enormous choir in my head cryin' out wanting me to go rescue them from my box of old vinyls. Such is the power of music. L...

Re: Black and Blue Train Blues

Thanks, comments much appreciated. My view of what I do is that I don't do any particular part very well but sometimes putting several fairly mediocre parts together sort of 'works'. This is more luck than any overall skill I think ... so positive comments come as a bit of a surprise to me. Perhaps ...

Re: Rolls and Tumbles

Thanks guys. Reason I haven't posted much is that getting sufficient gear together from all the places I've stored it while getting a functional music room / studio up and working kind-of takes the spontaneous fun out of it a bit. It's an activity that's been 'in progress' since even before I joined...

eb Jazzy with keys

Attempt at something jazzy! Guitar (including bass) is Chimera, keys are upright piano. Seems to be a bit of timing drift generated here and there in moving this via line out from Boss to Audacity to produce an mp3. Haven't had that before so will investigate. http://12bar.de/community/download/file...
