Re: Epiphone Sheraton?

In a store here, i tried a sheraton felt cluncky, dot felt better, but the neck is big. Also tried hagstrom (is it longer scale?) sounded brighter than the gibso...

Re: Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out

i would assume it's c major pentatonic they talk about, not minor? C major penta has the same notes as A minor penta. I think this song should be an exercise in aiming the chord notes. If you play a minor penta at 5-8 fret, see the "open g chord" five frets up for the c chord. Then "o...

Re: Hi from Sweden!

Hej, Thaumiel! I am from Finland, a few years older than you, and I agree. It's very tough to find beginner-intermediate group to play with, unless you want play heavy metal. My leanings are also more like 40-50s instead of '70-'80s, which makes it even more difficult. I have done a band course for ...

Re: Working Out The Key From A Riff

Sure. What notes are in it? What is the "home" note(s)? Which note does it end or start with or stay most/longest at, any open strings used? Do the notes spell out a chord or scale (like mixolydian, minor pentatonic or blues scale)?

Re: Playing without backing

well the main thing is that you hear the beat and progression in your mind. So tap your foot an ingrain the progression in your mind.

They say that in good solo you hear the progression even though no separate rhythm track was played...

Re: Query - Stratocaster - anyone tried to ....?

my strats will always have master tone. The other tone pot blends in neck pup or in-series... (Actually one of my strats had a blender pot that you could lift to get extra sounds). A lazy no-solder way is to just swap the place of bridge and middle pickups... So middle switch position is then bridge...

Yeah, the book was great. I did borrow the DVD, but wasn't much taken by it, so I just quickly scanned it and returned... Mick Taylor was great on it, though!

Re: New Affordable Gibsons

i guess you won't agree, but i still think gibson's strategy of making the cheapos in usa, is a sound one. Fender has taken another route, of course. Although you do hear imperfection complaints (even about the 'memphis cs' es-339 that is a higher dollar model). At least the more expensive models ar...

Re: New Affordable Gibsons

the sub-400 melody maker that gibson came out with a few years ago was a decent player i feel. The sub-800 tribute les paul with p90s were great, ane there plenty of decent worn models sub-1000. And made in usa, afaik. Fenders have always been cheaper, and the cheapest usa-made fenders are at least ...

I am in the same boat with VikingBlues... don't really regret any gear I've sold. Would I buy any one of them at the same price I sold them for... maybe one or two, or maybe not. (here's some I've had: Squier Bullet 2008 (modded by Rob DiStefano) 210 Koaloha pinapple soprano ukulele 220 Mahi Mahi so...

Re: Fingerpicking blues question

Classical guitar is played with 4 fingers, yes, but folk/blues fingerpicking doesn't need more than two! None of the old masters played with four, I'd say. Got op youtube and see for yourself.

Sounds great!

I have always been Afraid of multi-effects units, and effects in general, really. Only lately, I've been pondering about multi-effects again.
Line6 M9 and Vox tonelab are names that I have kept in my head as high class choices.

Re: Slide Guitar?

I have a nice "Diamond" brand bottleneck from UK. Too bad I am just TERRIBLE on the slide. Maybe another decade or century until I won't. On playing with no picks (like Sumlin, JJ Cale, Matt Guitar Murphy, Jimmie Lee Vaughan, Knopfler... and other guitar heroes of mine). I go back and fort...

Re: Soapbar time

Makes me wonder if I should have switched the pups in my ex Tokai LC85 for P90s instead of selling it! Still my back should thank me for not going that route. :D Well, the P90s are not same size as humbuckers, so you'd need to get some made to humbucker size, which then might not sound right, who k...
