Re: Minor Blues

Found this site via Half Blind Lefty's soundclick entry so thought I may as well try posting here. The link is to a solo I recorded to demo the Bare Knuckle Slowhand pickups I have installed. The backing track is from Bluesblast.com. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9168239 :welcome: to the site ...

Re: Slow Blues In D Collab. Anyone?

Well - I've had a go, but the harp intro IS a hard act to follow. I've tried to pick up a phrase or two and carry them on, but ... you're next on Lynyrd - if it doesn't sound right, or my guitars too high in the mix, or whatever, I can redo. :icon_whoknows: Hagstrom Viking Deluxe this time -I...

Re: Slow Blues In D Collab. Anyone?

That's a great start to the piece bluesinbflat. I'll try and give this a go in the next 4 hours if no-one else is about to move on it. If I've not posted by then assume failure! Although with the quality of the harp playing it's a bit like being asked to solo following Eric. Gulp. Good choi...

Re: Blowing off a little steam.

You got a handle on your blues licks and phrasings, it tells me you listen and learn from those you admire. Too often many players are playing way too fast making stuff up that don't even come close to blues but more rock and don't follow the groove, but you got that blues soul in your heart and fi...

Re: And now for something completely different...

BTW, the tequila comment was meant tongue in cheek, not as an actual motivational technique. Know what you mean, as was my wine comment  BTW - there's no need for tequilas or wine to play a guitar - don't make the same mistake other's made... :oldie: Blindboys said his problem is nic...

Re: And now for something completely different...

After seeing VikingBlues talk about the difficulties of miking an amp, I thought I would see if my GuitarPort would support a microphone. Rather than lug an amp up our STEEP stairs to the computer room, I decided to try a totally acoustic fingerstyle thing for my first foray into miking my playing....

Re: Modes

The voice sounded familiar, but it was the guitar tone that made me say: "Hey this is the intervalic CD" guy. I think those youtube links above are great for hearing the difference in the modes! But I still would always like to think in terms of relation to major scale, not the relation of a fretbo...

Re: Blowing off a little steam.

Yeah, VB, a good tube amp responds to the way you play unlike any solid state or hybrid amp I have ever played. (HBL touts the CyberTwin, so it may well be the exception that proves the rule :D ) The models on the Line6 are pretty good, but nothing like an amp at volume. I agree about t...

Re: Modes

this is what you need now: http://web.me.com/fusedstudios/Harmonized_MODEs_-_7th_chords/IONIAN.html Thanks for the link Weelie - I've had an initial look, and it looks helpful. I'll need to put some time aside for this properly. I'll be on holiday for a week soon and won't have my guitar with me, s...

Re: Modes

If you want to know if a chord fits to a scale, you can also use the scale generator on this site ( http://12bar.de/scale_generator.php ) Thanks 12-bar - I will have a look at that. Anything to help lift the fog! You can also compare mixo to dorian etc. You can spend hours playing with it... Hours ...

Re: Blowing off a little steam.

That's all pickup selector and picking dynamics. I set the amp (or amp model, in this case) for just a little over the top, then play soft or hard, depending on how I want to sound. The neck pickup (or neck/middle on a Strat) has a rounder more melodic sound, and the bridge pickup is brighter and s...

Re: Modes

Thanks Weelie. :D I find playing a more straightforward task than understanding. The older I get the more I need to understand something to be able to remember it, or it just doesn't stick. I guess there's the two sides of the brain at work, and my left side has been used too much over the years and...

Modes

So, I'm sort of getting more of a handle on how to play modes and how they relate to and all include the pentatonic notes. Some of the fog seems to be lifting thanks to an on line guitar teacher called David Wallimann. I think I understand some of what he says about theory, which is a miracle. :bana...

Re: Blowing off a little steam.

Yep - can hear that steam hissing big time - a good fluent piece of blues in the Bb tradition. Always glad to see you posting a track - and enjoyed this hugely - great sounds from your Frankenstrat - you two are a great team.  Damn projects - my computer's littered with half finished ...

Re: Featured artist @ the independent musicscene.com

I think it true to say that the last person to realise the worth of their work is usually the artist themself. :shy:

I for one am not surprised about your being featured - I admire your taking the risk of asking them the question in the first place - that takes some nerve to do.

Re: new (used) Korg nanoKONTROL

Just be patient, your time(free space) wil come when your kids are ~20-21 :away: Or maybe a bit later than that - we're on 23 and 21 and still (apart from the time away when at University) they are sitting in the nest. Must remember to change the locks when they're out next! To be honest I'l...

Re: Teach Me A Lesson

VB... I have checked out JamPlay. Looks like a really great resource. I can't say that I do not have time for lessons or for practice... I retired in April of 2009. But then again, retirement is a pretty busy time of your life... doing things you like instead of things you have to do. Still... I li...
