Re: at last. my ultimate blues guitar.

For a 335 substitute I ended up with a Hagstrom Viking Deluxe. Bought used on-line in 2008 for £260 (around $470 / 325 euros at the time). Buying on-line used is a risk I've not usually taken, but guitar shops in my local area were very conservative in their taste and had a very limited range of man...

Re: Red's return & Junior's debute

The fingers create so much of the sound when the player knows what he's doing like you do HBL. I remember having a G-Dec for quite a while but many moons ago. Seems like a different lifetime now. I found the G-Dec I had was surprisingly good for what it was and had some rather good soun...

Re: The PG out of phase sound on a Strat

It's amazing how much more complicated wiring gets going from two to three pickups!

Brings back memories of various attempts to rewire pickups in my past while I gradually realised I was rubbish at soldering!!
A PG out of phase sound is a good one if you can get it wired up right.

Re: greetings from behind the pine curtain

:welcome: to the forum!! :D

I'm just coming up to 65 and still have ambitions to play guitar well.
Even the very unlikely is possible!

A fine list of iconic bluesmen on your list of favourites - so much to admire in them and learn from them.

Re: Currently listening to...

I know this as a children' song - still can't figure it out... The phrase has been used often, Blues before sunrise or this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUvDzUeTj0Q  Nice reinvention by Ry Cooder - quite far removed from Joel or Presley, and the better for it too. Well - I think so. :t...

Re: Currently listening to...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zglDksAQED8 Found it... this is what annoys me with these bands, you really can't ever know if they have an ounce of creativity in them unless you investigate, and 9/10 cases you'll find some obscure record which they used and never talked about. I mean, it's an ok s...

Re: at last. my ultimate blues guitar.

Great looking guitar and a great conversion job too. A lot of work you set yourself, and made harder by it being a hollow body. I would think improved sound with the changes and the quality of the gear you've used and it's improved the look of the guitar too. If you've managed to solve the ho...

Re: Getting the hand and fingers back in action

Damn it - see what I've been missing!!!!!!! :yikes: Regarding the first post and the "short thingie", yes, the HBL sound still exists. The quality is there - big style! Very beautiful sounds from the Hondo - that guitar has great tone, but i know a lot of that is coming from the player. A tou...

Re: Noodling for a short video

Excellent job - despite the technical issues you've come up with a perfect style of soundtrack for the video.

Good job in getting feeling into the VST track as well as the guitar part. Good choice of key too!

Able to grab a window of time to listen to those recent links. Very enjoyable indeed! Wish i could find some time to listen to music ... and to go on music forums. Less than 60 working days till retirement though. So near but yet so far. :wall: Of the music I have heard recently I'm ashamed t...

Happy New Year to you too!!!

Hopefully a musical one for me, but it might have to wait till the end of April when I retire.
At the moment I need a few extra hours every day to have much of a chance to make music.

May you all have a blues-tastic year. :bb:

Who needs expensive glass slides!!! Good to see skilled musicians having fun! Always a place for a mad drummer. Like the Muppets Animal!!!!! Steve Moore definitely deserves the title Mad Drummer! And doesn't miss a beat. Flamencomedy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APxW6zh0xVM...

Re: Theory question

Hitting the right target notes is a massive piece of the battle for getting a solo to sound decent.
It's wonderfully satisfying to the ears to hit them at just the right moment!!
I actually managed to understand some of the theory in that video!!! :yikes:

Re: Currently listening to...

Jay McShann - lovely! Ain't Nobody's Business - enjoyed that fine singing, but it was strange seeing Eric just singing with no guitar - he seemed a bit unsure of what to do with his hands. Hound Dog Taylor - yup, huge energy and a great antidote to torpor - can't sit still to this either. Can I just...

Re: Who's there?

Ahh - Double Trouble!
But what a great trouble to have. :D

Why does something as good as playing guitar have to hurt so much for some. Very unfair.
Hope you manage to get some playing again sometime - I miss hearing that great tone.
