Re: Ladies and Gentlemen - The Rolling Stones.

The live album Get Yer Ya-Yas Out knocks the musical pants off of Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones, in my opinion. Better sound (in the anniversary edition, at least) and a manifestly better track selection. Plus some real low-down dirty blues numbers with just Jagger and Richards.

Everything I have read or heard about theses concerts indicates that they were fantastic. I hope the DVD comes out soon.

Re: Saw Johnny Winter Last Night- Pics Inside!

I felt the same way about B.B. King when I saw him last February. That said, he can still play, when he wants to, but he never does seem to. With Buddy Guy playing an hour and a half before hand there was just no comparison. Same with Johnny and the rest of Crossroads 2010. I left before the end bot...

Re: Saw Johnny Winter Last Night- Pics Inside!

I'm glad you had an at least semi-positive experience. When he played at Crossroads last year it was a disaster. His timing was way off.

He's good. I was at Crossroads last year, and he was one of the breakout highlights. He was blistering.

Re: Eric Clapton in Abu Dhabi!

Yeah, I was hoping that Diamonds would replace WT. Everything Will be Alright would be pretty cool too. As for coming up with setlists, I'm pretty sure that EC just plays whatever he is the most comfortable with. Maybe having an autocue is what he needs to do to save his live shows from this samenes...

I've been thinking about picking up a lap steel recently, but I'm torn between getting one or a resonator.

I like the sit down stuff with the 335. Pretty cool. Though I was hoping for some Autumn Leaves action at some point in the tour. Ah well.

Re: Greatest guitar solo....ever

Predictably if I had to choose one solo it would be Peter Green. "No - surely not Viking - that's not like you" I hear you all cry! That's if it's a blues solo. If going outside the blues I'd be hard pressed depending on my mood to decide between "Jumping at Shadows" and ...

It hardly seems a year.

I've known others on internet forums who have died, but on a small and devoted community like this one feels a lot closer to your compatriots. He will be remembered.

Re: What style of guitar is you favorite for electric blues?

I don't have a particular favorite. My go to is my EC strat, but my ES-135 is fantastic too. That said, most of my favorite players use strats (EC, Jimi, Stevie and Jimmie, and, of course, Buddy)

The Blues and European Guitar styles

http://jasobrecht.com/blues-origins-spa ... ebastopol/

Above is a like to a neat little article about the influence of European parlor guitar styles and tunings on the blues, including the origin's of some of the classic open tunings that we all know and love.

More to come.

I cannot recommend http://www.rockymountainslides.com/ these slides enough. (I have the Blues Boy in Hell Hound Red). The tone I get from something so thin and light just shocked me. I have numerous slides (ratchet wrenches, pipes, bottlenecks, and various metal and glass ones that I have purchased ...

Re: Travelin' Alone

Also, I do recommend a capo on the 2nd fret, makes this much easier to play. Not that it is terribly difficult, but for playing and singing at the same time (which is what I mostly do) it helps a lot.
