Re: Right, here's another vid...
It's great to see a live performance. It's one thing to do many takes at home and pick the best to share with others; quite another to perform live and get it right. I wasn't quite sure that the drummer was helping as the performance progressed. He's quite loud in the mix and distracting from the fi...

Re: 3rd try at an acoustic composition - "Leaving"
My eye caught this on my return visit to 12bar.de as it is acoustic and by Viking Blues. Nice melody. More melodic than most blues and nice chord choices. I think the addition of a few well timed bass notes to the fingerpicking would set out the structure more clearly for the listener and get feet t...

Sitting on top of the World
Hi I find singing rather hard. I also find it hard to get the loose but right combination of guitar and harmonica. In this attempt, I've taken the trad song, Sitting on top of the World, and changed the lyrics. Please let me know what you think. Is it loose but right or just shambolic? Cheers Phil M...

Blues Mudley - resonator
Dear all I've been away for while and wondered if you'd be interested in some low-tech country blues on a resonator. The palm damping is a bit heavy as the bridge guard on a resonator makes it impossible to get really close to the bridge. Anyway, please see what you think and let me know. All the be...

Re: Nobody's Fault but Mine - playing and singing
Dear Blindboy Thanks for the feedback. Your advice is very sound. The example is excellent. The solo stands out nicely. The backing for singing fits well. The really hard bit for me will be singing a melody reliably without notes to guide me. I can put together a melody track on headphones to guide ...

Re: Nobody's Fault but Mine - playing and singing
Dear all This is great feedback. Thank you all for taking time to listen and comment. You are a remarkably kind and generous bunch. There's a bit of a split on whether 1 or 2 is best. I like the idea of keeping going with both voices to see what happens, as suggested, picking the one that best suits...

Nobody's Fault but Mine - playing and singing
Dear All I would welcome your help in the ever vexing problem of deciding which voice to use when singing over a guitar accompaniment. And how to develop the chosen voice to be better. I have a sort of resonant chest voice, which, if I manage to get in tune and stick within my limited range, can sou...

Re: Blues Bm
Wow. These are good. Very sensitive, emotional playing. For what it is worth, I like the version with less distortion and I like them both better than the other Bm track you posted using another sort of chorus effect or something - I'm afraid I know little about effects. I think your playing is so g...

Re: Lazy Blues
I think what distinguishes this piece is the way in which it progresses with the emotion building and the way you manage to squeeze some emotional content out of each note. This is the blues. All the best, Phil

Re: Raunchy, OD blues
Great stuff. Full on. I think it would have been even better without quite so much reverb. It sounded a little too processed in places, but that didn't detract from the great playing which shone through. Superb. Cheers, Phil

Re: Slowl E does it Blues
Hi Viking Blues
Silky smooth and controlled. Sounds wonderful. Great playing and superb tone. I just wonder how you can inject some fierce edge to it here and there. It smoulders beautifully, but it might be nice to crackle and flare up from time to time too.
Cheers
Phil

This Isn't Democracy - solo acoustic slide guitar
Dear all This is my first go at singing and playing blues simultaneously. Little wobbly on both fronts, but I got there. It's a topical piece, which I hope will entertain and, possibly, change of the democracy for the better across all the countries of the world: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7yrD...

Ghost in my shell
Dear all I've just made a song in which I moan about work and would welcome feedback: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNHTFLTdAIg I tried giving it a raw feel with just one guitar track, one voice/harmonica track and one percussion track. I also had a go at singing in a higher register than usual fol...

Getting the most out of your practising...with neuroscience
Sparked by a discussion with Viking Blues, I mentioned a lecture I heard by Gert-Jan de Haas about the musical brain. He's a guitarist and neuro scientist. He gave a great lecture with interesting practical tips. Here's the main points I picked up. 1. In an experiment, people practising a piece of m...

Re: On a Go Slow
Dear Viking Blues Very smooth track as ever. Nice controlled playing. I find myself becoming a bit obsessive when putting something new together in any genre. All becomes rather intense. Also tend to record things too early before I've really let the musical thoughts sink down into bits of my brain ...

Re: Three acoustic slide guitar pieces
Thanks for your kind feedback. In answer to the question, Santiago de Compostela is a city in Spain. A pilgrimage trail leads there: the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. I walked something less than the last 100 miles during the course of a week, but the trail extends right across Europe. I met a r...

Fantastic tone and feel. The opening didn't quite work for me but loved it when the structure emerged in that solid groove. Just amazed by the sound you've created. Beautiful.
