Re: Best value Les Paul copy?

I had an Epiphone LP Standard for years before I bought my Gibson LP Traditional.... and as much as I loved the Epiphone, it certainly didn't sing the way the Gibson does. Never bothered to upgrade the pickups or anything on the Epi which may have had something to do with it.

Re: How to save $3000 on a guitar

You know, the neck was actually a breeze. Bolted it on, strung it up, and it needed no adjustment. Setting the intonation on the bridge was a bit of a learning process (having played nothing but Les Paul's with tune-o-matics for the last 15 years!) but it really only took an evening of my patience. ...

How to save $3000 on a guitar

Last year I phoned up my "local"Fender dealer to find out what it would cost me to get a lefty version of the Eric Clapton Stratocaster from Fender. Turns out, my only option was going custom shop... to a price tag of nearly $4000! I also called up Southpaw guitars in Houston TX (where I b...

Re: Oh, yeah Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton Play The Blues

As much as I have to admit that EC seems to have no musical limits, this CD is not my taste. He sings great, has some nice guitar runs, the musicians are excellent, but I don't like this sort of music. :icon_whoknows: 44 has been ruined IMHO... I beg to differ. 44 was great! Layla was a nice variat...

Re: I'm back, plus Clapton's new CD

Gotta love The Onion. In all seriousness there's supposed to be a boxed set re-releasing several of albums as one package (off the top of my head I think From the Cradle, Riding With the King and Me and Mr. Johnson). Kinda disappointing.... I'd much rather have a " Crossroads 3 Live in the 1980...

Thanks, lefty! I'm thinking you're talking about this one: I had never seen this before. It's cool to see them all up on stage together. As for the drugs being the problem, it was also what helped make some of the great music we love so much. So maybe the answer is just don't over do it. ha. (psa t...

Re: New Affordable Gibsons

Well, I have no mortgage, no car payments, no kids and had a big fat overtime cheque in hand the day I bought mine... The money probably should've gone into something more practical, but mind you my Gibson has held its value better than some of the market investments I've made.

Re: New Affordable Gibsons

If you're buying a Gibson, spend the $2500 and get a nice one. That's what I did. Couldn't be happier.

Me, too, 12bar! I found a bootleg of a Clapton/Page/Beck concert recently. Just one of the many concerts i wish i would have seen.... For Beck and Clapton... from what I've seen Page was so far gone on whatever his drug of choice was at the time most of his performances were lackluster. There's a y...

Re: Forest fire danger in the Southwest...

In wildland/urban interface fires a lot of buildings are lost not due to direct flame from the fire front but due to airborne burning embers - so if you've got time, I'd be patching cracks, gaps in siding, loose shingles, anything where little burning bits could get lodged and burn. That and trimmin...

Re: Forest fire danger in the Southwest...

Best of luck dealing with everything! Part of my day job is as a member of one of the incident command teams that manages large scale forest fires in Canada's national parks... they can be pretty scary when you're up close and personal.

'53 Les Paul Stolen - Be on the Lookout!

Hey gang - this has been all over the news here in Canada - figured I might as well spread word a bit more. I feel for this poor guy! Re: I shot the sheriff tabs

it should be pretty easy to pick up the Hyde Park one from just watching the DVD - I think the camera guy is smart enough to stay focused on his hands most of the song.... I used to be able to fake through a version of that one after learning a lot of the licks just by watching.

That was GREAT! Loved the tone and the licks.

Cudos too for having enough patience to pick through the chords for 4 min plus to play over them.... I can't keep my attention focused that long on rhythm before I feel the need to play lead lines.

Found a temporary cure for GAS

This was a birthday present to myself... Lefty Martin 000-28EC Eric Clapton signature guitar ordered in late April from the good folks at http://www.myfavoriteguitars.com and it just arrived today (had to be delivered from the Martin factory to them first). I think I'll be playing more acoustic guit...

Re: Eric C - Spring Tour 2011

Re: pedals My guess would be the multi-switch pedal is for the Leslie (i.e. for Badge) to route the guitar signal and adjust the various speeds. I've seen EC every time he's stopped in Canada over the past 15 years and I've got to say, there hasn't been any decline I've seen - but there are ups and ...
