Re: Gibson could be facing bankruptcy!

They'll weather it fine, I'd guess. The tough part would be peeps losing jobs. Popular music doesn't seem to be "guitar driven" these days ..??.. I don't really keep up with pop music any more, so I can't say that for certain. If it is a market trend, then the other makers won't be hiring ...

Re: Eric Clapton struggling to play guitar because of damage to his nervous system

! Wow ! Thanks for those links ! Eric is quite a guy. He comes off very lucid, honest and even humble. ..he'd be okay if he had to give up guitar .. he said so -lol I think I have to buy that film. Even I, a young buck in his mid fifties have to admit that I don't have the dexterity I used to. He's ...

Re: Do you use Blues Licks to solo?

Boy, this thread is the gift that keeps on giving ... lol I was working on Hide Away this morning and there's some specific things I want to hear in there. Guess what they are, ..licks ...yup, it's true. One of them comes from Jeff Healy, my nearest recollection anyway, been a long time since I hear...

Re: minor 6

No need for apologies, was an interesting tangent. but yes, from what I've seen the -6 is used either as a modal vamp, or a substitute for another chord. ..and there's nothing wrong with crossing over into jazz, Robben Ford makes some fine music doing just that :D

I quite like both of those, simple, yet compelling.
You have a Mark Knopfler-ish thing going on The Drinking Gourd. Well done !

Re: minor 6

Do you have any concerns about soloing over a Blues Song that has minor 6 chords instead of minor 7 chords? You would have many bars of consecutive minor 6 chords to solo over. I am going to plug them into my Band in a Box program and see how they sound. I know they make the progressions go more Ja...

Re: minor 6

Thank you all for the replies, I appreciate that ! I should've been a a little more specific and said that I'm looking for solo / melodic options over these chords, mainly an academic / practice perspective, for now. There's no "problem" with those chords, of course, the tune moves fast en...

Well done on the jam ! ... seems to be the consensus  I love the fact that everyone here is more interested in good music than showing off their chops ...more thumbs up.. Also, thank you for introducing me to wikiloops, I had the radio feature going at work today. ...still working on the r...

minor 6

Hi all I'm wondering how you folks handle a minor 6 chord, when you see one on a lead sheet. Function being the trick, I'm not talking about something like Miles Davis So What, but more along the lines of Georgia on my Mind. I have several of these listed on my music and have, so far only determined...

Re: Demonicon [metal]

Actually, I don't mind a little metal .. and you kinda had me at the start. What got to me though was the drums, I can't listen to that constantly. If you can break that up with a little funk and grove, I'd like that better.

! Rock on !

Re: Recording Secrets - Please Share Yours...

OK, this is good ! Thanks peeps ! I got Logix with my Mac, but by the time I got around to trying it, I'd upgraded my OS and ..poof.. no more Logix... I have to check out Linux now. I've heard great things, but this the first time someone mentions it for recording. I swear, one day I'll be able to p...

Re: Sweet Vibrato - Monster Mike Welch

Ah-ha ... and lol. "monster" mike was the the "player who shall remain nameless" from an earlier post I made. He knows every lick in the book .. and he's not afraid to use them. He's very accomplished, gotta give him credit, but not much fun to listen to.. just my opinion. As for...

In the same spirit, here's someone you may not have heard of (above). I can't understand a word he's saying, but you get a good look at what he's doing :D

Re: Do you use Blues Licks to solo?

Good question .. and I believe, to some extent everyone uses some "stock phrases". We all started playing because we heard some record and said " I gotta do that" :D The key is, as others have said, to use those licks as a stepping stone to get around to your own music / voice. O...
