New forumer here!

Hi guys, I just subscribed to this site!
I got here when I looked for ''EC Crash guitar'' with Google.. this seems to be a great site/forum at first sight, and I'm sure it really is!

My name is Riccardo and I'm from Italy.. my nickname is a combo of my name and Giant Steps, the famous song by John Coltrane.. in fact jazz is a great passion of mine.
I started to play the guitar in the beginning of the 2000s and playd rock/metal stuff.. then I got into jazz and studied it (well, I'm still studying jazz.. but it's really hard!), blues has always been a part of me.. but in these days the interest in it is growing at incredible rates!
I think I have the chops to play the blues.. don't know if I have the heart to do it.

My main axe is an Ibanez RG but I am rebuilding a dissambled Strato copy.. and someday I'll buy a real one, and maybe someday a butterscotch tele.. no effects at home, amp is a 25watt Fender.. a Blues Deluxe or a Bassman is welcome!

I'm trying to form a blues group or find people whom I'd jam.. but it seems that everyone's into metal here!

Two things:

1. will, someday, Buddy Guy and B.B. King play in Europe?
2. if you need to suggest 5 essential blues CDs, which would be your pick? (I'm in dire straits at the moment..).

Ciao!

welcome and Buon giorno!

1) BB King and Buddy Guy both have websites with tour dates, nearest BB concert is in Morocco, Buddy is not on this side of the pond.

2) We had some threads on this topic - try the forum search dance

Five essential blues albums?

1) Robert Johnson: The Complete Recordings
2) B.B. King: Live at the Regal
3) Mr. Eric Clapton: From the Cradle
4) Stevie Ray Vaughan: The Sky is Crying
5) Mr. Eric Clapton: Unplugged or Buddy Guy: Skin Deep

Also, +1 for Dire Straits. Mark is one of the greatest guitar players of all time.

I looked at their sites.. but I thought that there are some rumors about possible dates that I don't know.
I'll search for this in the right section of this forum!

I got Slowhand and 461 Blvd. Ocean today from a friend of mine!!
And Skin Deep is a great album.. I boght it the first day it came out in Italy. I forgot to say that, but I consider myself a Buddy Guy fan.. I really like him, I have Sweet Tea and Skin Deep (bought new for a crazy price of at least 18€ each, which is a lot for me!), I missed him when he played in 2008 because of an exam and I really enjoy his warm voice and his soulfull bendings!

I'll look for some Robert Johnson's CDs, for the B.B. King one and the one by SRV (a great player, his version of Little Wing is incredible, but because of this song a lot of guitarists -especially the ones who come from rock\metal- know him only because of this song.. I know some other songs and I can tell he was seriously great. And I admire his use of heavy gauge strings! My fingers hurt if I don't play with .09-.10 gauge strings!).
Perhaps I'll buy the Beano album soon, too.. one song was cover in the mag. Guitar Techniques with a transcription of one song with another from Jeff Beck (another guitarist whom 'Sony 5 CD box-set' is on my to-buy-soon list).

And kudos to Mark Knopfler, I have an old cassette with some music from some Dire Straits albums. He's crazy.. one of the most beautiful tone I have ever heard. And he plays without a pick, and can go fast as hell, and have an incredibly expressive sound.. I like playing fingerpicking (even more than with a pick), but I feel naked without a pick.. it's difficult not to use it.

You need only one: the complete recordings. There are no other songs.

Live at the Regal!!!

Re: New forumer here!

I went to a super market that sells some discounted CDs.. I've only found the Unplugged album by EC and Live at the Regal (B.B. King) but those were 17+ € CDs, so I didn't buy anything.
But I found 'Couldn't Stand the Weather' by SRV.. I don't know if, as many bluesmen say, he's got the blues, but damn, this guy is INCREDIBLE!!
